UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO FOUNDATIONCU-Boulder Alumni Association: Creating Ties that BindThe CU-Boulder Alumni Association offers a breadth of programming to support the connection between alumni,students, and the university.Event ConnectionsDozens of well-attended events attracted more than 6,000alumni throughout Colorado and the United States. A westernslope tour with Chancellor G.P. “Bud” Peterson, more opportunitiesfor alumni to meet CU President Hank Brown, and severalappearances by Athletic Director Mike Bohn and Head FootballCoach Dan Hawkins proved popular among alumni.The class of 1957 took a walk down memory lane at their biggerthan-ever50-year reunion. The second annual Alumni Collegein Boulder offered an intellectually stimulating weekend ofprovocative subjects for alums to ponder and debate. And forNew York City alumni, a delightful reception in the home ofacclaimed artist Marlene Tseng Yu (MFA ’67) built awareness ofthe new Visual Arts Complex.Building Bridges: Alumni Supporting StudentsThis year alumni pride was on display around the Bouldercampus. Banners featuring eye-catching photos of youngeralumni pursuing their dreams were designed to showcase alumniaccomplishments and inspire our students. This creative effort toput alumni in front of the campus community showcased thenames, degrees, and brief descriptions of the accomplishmentsof several of our multitalented graduates.With scholarship support increasingly vital to ensuring access toa college education, the Alumni Association partnered with theCU Parents Association, the Directors Club, and various regionalclubs to award 98 scholarships totaling $142,100.A group of Roaming Buffaloes enjoy their time on the “Blue Voyage: Legendary Turkey and the Turquoise Coast,” a trip that explored Istanbul and beyond fromMay 27 to June 11, 2007.– 6 –
U N I V E R S I T Y O F C O LO R A D O F O U N DAT I O NSan Diego Buffs show their pride at a June club gathering at Dana Point.Preserving CU’s HistoryThe Heritage Center, CU-Boulder’s history museum, welcomedmore than 21,000 visitors to the top floor of historic Old Main.Two outstanding new exhibits debuted, one about alumnusGlenn Miller and another chronicling CU’s visionary recruitingefforts at the 1893 Chicago World’s Exposition.Traveling with the Roaming BuffsHundreds of alumni packed their bags and traveled with theRoaming Buffs to virtually every corner of the world, reconnectingwith classmates and CU family members.A special offering, “Hank Brown’s Washington: The History ofthe United States through the Art of the Capitol,” attracted 91participants. A former U.S. senator, President Brown coloredthe tour with his personal insights and colorful anecdotes.From the ornate Senate to the senators’ almost elementaryschool-style desks, the insiders’ tour was fascinating. Demandfor a repeat performance is strong!Enhancing the Value of Alumni AssociationMembershipAlways on the lookout for opportunities to enhance membershipvalue, Buff Bucks, a new partnership with the CU athleticdepartment, entitled members to a complimentary ticket tothe homecoming football game. For our culture buffs, discountedtickets to the Colorado Shakespeare Festival wereavailable during the summer season.A new Heritage Center exhibit details the university’s participation in the1893 Chicago World’s Exposition. Today, 113 years later, CU hastransformed its small, windswept campus into a world-classeducational and research institution. (Marc Killinger photo)Keeping Our Alumni InformedOur alumni magazine, the Coloradan, featured a five-partseries on CU and the Alumni Association. The series commemoratedthe association’s founding by the university’s firstgraduates on June 9, 1882. A record 192,000 readers receivedthe June 2007 issue.Monthly editions of Buffalum Notes, an electronic newsletter,kept alumni abreast of association events, campus, alumni,and travel news. Distribution was up 34 percent, reaching67,000 alumni.The association’s redesigned website will include a contentmanagement system incorporating podcasts and a blog areato allow commentary, encourage more return visits, and createa more dynamic relationship between alumni and the AlumniAssociation.– 7 –
