U N I V E R S I T Y O F C O LO R A D O F O U N DAT I O NAnonymous DonorCommitted to Promoting <strong>the</strong>Health, Safety, and Welfare<strong>of</strong> Children WorldwideAn anonymous donor’s $2.5 million endowment will bolster and expand <strong>the</strong>cutting-edge work underway in <strong>the</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Architecture and Planning’sChildren, Youth, and Environments Center for Research and Design (CYE)on <strong>the</strong> Downtown Denver Campus.“This gift is intended to leverage additional resources so CYE can attract excellent researchersand students and establish <strong>the</strong> university as a place <strong>of</strong> national and international prominencefor work focused on <strong>the</strong> relationships among children, youth, and <strong>the</strong>ir environments,” commented<strong>the</strong> donor.The gift was announced at <strong>the</strong> launch <strong>of</strong> a citywide campaign to make Denver <strong>the</strong> numberone child- and youth-friendly city in <strong>the</strong> country, a CYE initiative that is engaging more than100 organizations and has attracted national and international attention.The center coordinates interdisciplinary activities that connect research and teaching topolicy and practice in environmental design and community development for youth.CYE’s Learning Landscapes Initiative, in collaboration with Denver Public Schools and o<strong>the</strong>rcommunity organizations, has provided students <strong>the</strong> opportunity to design and constructmore than 50 learning landscapes at elementary schools in Denver’s “focus neighborhoods.”The learning landscapes benefited 18,000 youngsters, 92 percent <strong>of</strong> whom qualified for <strong>the</strong>free and reduced lunch program.– 17 –Students enjoy creative play at a publicschool learning landscape in Denver(above), part <strong>of</strong> an initiative to makeDenver <strong>the</strong> number one child-friendlycity in <strong>the</strong> United States.
