Cath&d.ral Hill Hotel
SAN FRANCISCO 1QQ!:
559 6th Street • San Francisco, CA 94103
PRE-CON REPORT
First things first, thanks for supporting Syndi-CON with your membership. We appreciate your support.
Since our emphasis this year is Highlander, it is a given that many of you will have and/or buy swords. The
Cathedral Hill is to be considered holy ground- if you draw your sword we own it (at least for the duration of
the convention). If, as some of you have requested, you want your sword autographed by any of the guest,
you must be escorted by security and the sword must be given to the guest with in its scabbard. If you ignore
these requests you will be barred from the convention.
Second, for those of you coming into the bay area a bit of necessary information.
WEATHER
Remember Mark Twain's comment on San Francisco- ... the coldest winter ojmy life was a summer I spellt in
San Francisco... It can be true, especially if the fog really rolls in from the bay. Unlike other locales the fog
here is wet and cold. For those of you from more northern climes- a sweater should be enough, those from
warmer southern climes might want to bring a coat- especially if you plan to do any sightseeing or go out to
any of the nearby restaurants after dark.
HOTEL
The hotel is located on Van Ness Avenue between Geary and Post. The parking garage ($12.00/day for hotel
guest, $6.00 for 1-Day convention guest) is located under the hotel.
If you are driving to the convention you'll want to get to Van Ness Ave. if you have AAA they will provide
great directions. If you need more help give us a call.
Airport Shuttles
For those of you flying in- there are several ways to the hotel from the airport. A cab costs approximately
$30.00 (ouch) and we recommend using one of the many shuttle services which are readily available- just
follow the signs at the airport to find them. These cost from $10 to $12 per person. If you want to arrange
for a SuperShuttle before you leave home their San Francisco phone number for trips from SFO is (415) 871-
7800.
BART
For all of you local folks whc. plan on taking BART you can either get off at the Embarcadero stop and take a
cable car up to Van Ness (4 blocks from the hotel), or go to the Van Ness stop and catch a bus or hike up Van
Ness to the hotel (I 0 blocks).
Work Outs
If you are one of the m2ny of us who are into sweating -unfortunately the hotel doesn't have a weight/workout
room. However they do have an agreement with the 24-hour Nautilus located one block away. With your
room key you c2n g"·' ;n :0r $5.00 24 hours a day. ·
