Be enrolled in a major in the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Sciences</strong> or, health science, or a related applied health science oragricultural science major. (___)2. Reflect <strong>and</strong> focus on previous year academic experiences. Make strategic plans for how to become a bettercollege student; take more initiative <strong>and</strong> responsibility for learning course material. (___)3. Achieve an academic status <strong>of</strong> “good st<strong>and</strong>ing” by successfully completing a minimum <strong>of</strong> 24 credit hours during theacademic year <strong>and</strong> by achieving a minimum B overall grade point average. (___)*4. Immediately take advantage <strong>of</strong> academic support services sponsored/co-soponsored by NUCLEUS, such as:tutoring, group study, peer mentoring <strong>and</strong> academic workshops <strong>and</strong> seminard upon discovery <strong>of</strong> academicchallenges. (___)5. Check your email daily for correspondence from the NUCLEUS program staff. (___)6. Attend <strong>and</strong> participate in a minimum <strong>of</strong> three NUCLEUS sponsored/co-sponsored academic/pre-pr<strong>of</strong>essionalevents each academic semester. (See list <strong>of</strong> Participation Opportunities on NUCLEUS website) (___)7. Meet a minimum <strong>of</strong> twice this academic year with NUCLEUS staff for academic monitoring; update academicplan <strong>and</strong> career development. (___)8. Participate in a minimum <strong>of</strong> two Career Services sponsored-events this academic year for career development.(___)9. Meet with your faculty advisor a minimum <strong>of</strong> once this academic year to discuss department/major guidelines.These meetings should serve to keep your advisor informed <strong>of</strong> your progress, along with getting input <strong>and</strong> advicefrom him/her regarding departmental requirements or career related activities. (___)10. Meet a minimum <strong>of</strong> two times with each <strong>of</strong> your course instructors during <strong>of</strong>fice hours or by scheduledappointments. These meetings will serve to assist you in your course work along with help you establish a rapportwith faculty members, discuss topics <strong>of</strong> interest <strong>and</strong> develop mentoring relationships. Build a rapport with two faculty members each semester <strong>and</strong> learn how to appropriately ask for letters <strong>of</strong>recommendation by attending the NUCLEUS Recommendation Letter Etiquette Workshop. (___)12. Identify academic opportunities such as undergraduate research, service learning, field experience etc.through the NUCLEUS program or your major department. (___)13. Begin first drafts <strong>of</strong> personal statement; update resume; begin post baccalaureate planning. (___)14. Learn how to “give back” to NUCLEUS by becoming a peer tutor, peer mentor, participating in studentpanels or by initiating & facilitating group study sessions. 15. Participate in at least one outreach program activity. Participation may include tutoring, mentoring withinNUCLEUS, serving on a college or student panel, Discovery Days, Blue <strong>and</strong> Gold Days or participating in otherNUCLEUS or University outreach programs. (___)16. Identify a student affiliate national organization related to your major, career, or pr<strong>of</strong>essional interest. (___)17. Open HSAEC file in the department <strong>of</strong> biological sciences (for pre-med <strong>and</strong> pre-dental students only). (___)18. For the continual improvement <strong>of</strong> the NUCLEUS program, participate in <strong>and</strong>/or complete all evaluationactivities that are sponsored or co-sponsored by NUCLEUS, such as providing feedback on surveys, focusgroups or interview sessions when applicable.
