ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR7 <strong>Mar</strong> <strong>2008</strong>NLB Academy extended the invitation to LAS members to attend the a sharingsession by Ms Leneve Jamieson, Manager, Access and Information Division, State<strong>Library</strong> <strong>of</strong> Victoria on the State <strong>Library</strong> <strong>of</strong> Victoria.20 <strong>Mar</strong> <strong>2008</strong>NLB Academy extended the invitation to LAS members to attend a sharing sessionby Ms Wang Yang & Ms Li Wenjie, National <strong>Library</strong> <strong>of</strong> China on “The Tradition andInnovation <strong>of</strong> the National <strong>Library</strong> <strong>of</strong> China”.29 <strong>Mar</strong> <strong>2008</strong>The LAS <strong>Annual</strong> General Meeting was held at <strong>Singapore</strong> Polytechnic, <strong>Singapore</strong>,attended by 98 LAS members.5 May <strong>2008</strong>NLB Academy extended the invitation to LAS members to attend the GuestSpeaker Series, by Mdm Nguyen Thi Bac, Director <strong>of</strong> the General Sciences <strong>Library</strong><strong>of</strong> Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Project Director, Regional <strong>Library</strong> Development on“Vietnamese Public Libraries: Expanding the Services for the Visually Impaired”.6 May <strong>2008</strong>NLB Academy extended the invitation to LAS members to attend the GuestSpeaker Series, by Mrs. Sara Joergensen, Head <strong>of</strong> Development and IT, HerningPublic Libraries, Denmark on “Public <strong>Library</strong> Innovation Specialists fromDenmark”, covering topic on the <strong>Library</strong> System in Denmark: Structure and CurrentDevelopment - what we do and how we do it and topic on Local Citizens’ Service.8 - 9 May <strong>2008</strong>The LAS Conference <strong>2008</strong> was held at <strong>Singapore</strong> Polytechnic. The theme wasInnovate to Serve. There was a good attendance <strong>of</strong> about 225 participants. Elevenposter sessions were presented by librarians from various libraries.9 May <strong>2008</strong>LAS and NLB co-organized the Istana Reception that was held on 9 May <strong>2008</strong>. Itwas an exclusive event for Librarians and Information Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, hosted byPresident <strong>of</strong> <strong>Singapore</strong>, R S Nathan. A total <strong>of</strong> 212 participants attended this event.The LAS Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Service Award was given out at the Reception.
