Should everyone<strong>the</strong>n abandon <strong>the</strong> distractions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> world to live <strong>the</strong>life <strong>of</strong> a hermit?<strong>Sadhu</strong>: It is true that prayer is <strong>the</strong> means by whichwe experience <strong>the</strong> reality <strong>of</strong> God. But once God hasbecome a living reality for us, we simply have to loveour fellow men. We cannot do o<strong>the</strong>rwise. Once wereceive <strong>the</strong> new life <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Spirit, we begin to live inlove. And living in love, we are moved quite naturallyand joyfully to serve o<strong>the</strong>rs. God is love and ifwe live in union with God, we have <strong>the</strong> strength andlonging to love o<strong>the</strong>rs. Service is a spiritual activity,<strong>the</strong> natural fruit <strong>of</strong> love. God, who is love, is everserving and caring for Creation. Human beings aremade to be like God and so <strong>the</strong>y too should never tire<strong>of</strong> serving o<strong>the</strong>rs.Prayer without work is as bad as work withoutprayer.
