TEAMWORKMAKING HISTORY HAPPEN TODAYADVANCING WITH THE TIMESA look at the latest projectsNEW SOUTH COURT TOWER OPEN FEBRUARY 2012HISTORY: In 2007, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved theconstruction of a new South Court Tower in Downtown Phoenix. The $340million facility is built on the southwest corner of Madison and First avenues.The courthouse is designed to improve efficiency and meet the rapidly growingneeds of the justice system.FUTURE: The building ushers in the future for the court. It includes the followingClerk of the Court functions: criminal file counters, RCC/EDC processing,evidence storage, and criminal courtroom clerks. The building also includes 22criminal courtrooms, a jury assembly room, staffing space for Superior Court,Adult Probation, County Attorney, and Public Defender, as well as securedholding cells. The South Court Tower is an energy efficient building with LEEDdesignation. An additional 10 courtrooms and support space are planned forthe future. The new court tower was dedicated on February 14, 2012, the dayof Arizona’s 100-Year Anniversary of Statehood. More information about theproject is available at: http://www.maricopa.gov/courttower/PLAN FOR MAJOR REMODELING OF OFFICES IS IN THE WORKSMARRIAGE EVENT FOR ARIZONA’SCENTENNIAL/VALENTINE’S DAYHISTORY: On Feb. 14, 2012, not only is itValentine’s Day, but Arizona celebrates its 100thanniversary of statehood.FUTURE: In celebration of Arizona’s StatehoodCentennial, the Arizona Clerks of the Court andArizona Supreme Court co-hosted a centennialmarriage event on the grounds of the ArizonaCourts Building, adjacent to Wesley Bolin Plazaat the State Capitol on Feb. 14, 2012. Unmarriedcouples who met Arizona’s statutory requirementshad the opportunity to be married by the ChiefJustice of the Supreme Court.HISTORY: The Office has been working with the County Facilities ManagementDepartment to remodel the Clerk’s office space in the Central and WestCourt buildings. After more than 30 years of the Office occupying theseareas, the space will be redesigned to better accommodate customers,increase efficiencies, streamline operations, and improve overall workingconditions. Several areas will be impacted by the remodeling work includingthe filing counters, courtroom clerks, docket, distribution,electronic documentmanagement, and financial services staff, among others. During the remodelingprocess, many of these functions will temporarily relocate to the County’s swingspace; however, the Civil and Family Court filing counters will consolidate andremain in the Central Court Building during construction.FUTURE: Construction begins in March 2012 with an expected completion dateof April 2013.
