2012 Jeffrey J. Zogg Build New York Entrants<br />

7) L.P. Ciminelli – Buffalo Public School, PS 195, City<br />

Honors School<br />

City Honors School was reconstructed during phase III of the<br />

$1.45 billion, district –wide Buffalo Public Schools Reconstruction<br />

Program. The $48 million project featured upgrades to 183,000<br />

SF of existing school and adding over 65,000 SF of additions which<br />

include a new 8-lane competitive swimming pool, diving platforms<br />

and bleachers. LPCiminelli also had to deal with the recovery of<br />

several intact graves from a cemetery dating back to the 1830’s.<br />

8) Plaza <strong>Construction</strong> - Brooklyn Navy Yard - Building 92<br />

Originally built in the 1840’s, Building 92, a 9400 SF structure now<br />

serves as the New Brooklyn Navy Yard Historic Center. The restoration<br />

involved stabilizing the structure with a new foundation system<br />

supported by piles and replacement of the structural framing that<br />

was comprised throughout the past 170+ years. The restoration<br />

required additional improvement to support a 20 foot high, 12 ton<br />

ships anchor and chain, along with a 3-ton historic canon.<br />

9) R&P Oak Hill Development – SKF Aeroengine Heat<br />

Treatment Facility<br />

This 82,000-square-foot project built for SKFUSA consisted of a<br />

state-of-the-art Heat Treatment Facility and attached corporate<br />

offices. The $13.9 million project dealt with a number of challenges<br />

such as hazardous site materials and severe winter conditions.<br />

10) Schimenti <strong>Construction</strong> Co. – REI Flagship, SOHO<br />

Built in the historic Puck Building in NYC, the REI flagship store is<br />

definitely one of a kind. The retail store now features two 14-foot,<br />

nine-tons fly wheels leftover from the buildings original steam powered<br />

plant which at one time drove the worlds largest lithograph presses.<br />

11) Turner <strong>Construction</strong> – Kaleida Gates Vascular<br />

Institute<br />

This 10 story, 480,000 SF building has a very unique curtain<br />

wall which includes 8 different elements: curtain wall, storefront,<br />

prefabricated metal panels, corrugated metal panels – 2 types,<br />

punch windows, louver systems, masonry brick and precast<br />

concrete. With the complexities of hospital coordination, Building<br />

Information Modeling was used to coordinate the MEP/FP trades.<br />

12) Welliver – Meier Hall, Elmira College<br />

Meier Hall is a five-story, 140-bed dormitory that was designed in<br />

the collegiate, gothic architecture style. The 64,000 SF building<br />

also houses the resident life staff and visiting faculty at Elmira.<br />

Welliver’s masons from Local No. 3 performed over 8000 hours<br />

of work, laying over 127,000 bricks and 580 tons of limestone. A<br />

19th century masterpiece built in the 21st century.<br />
