AGC NYS - USP
By: Dennis Kiefer, AGC NYS Member Services Director
No, its not the United States Postal Service, or United Parcel Service. We’re not
talking about packages, but we are talking about delivering. USP stands for
Unique Selling Proposition. What is the AGC NYS “USP?” What do we need to
tell our prospective Members in 15 seconds that is going to hook them? What sets us
apart from others?
We’ll answer the last question first. What sets AGC NYS apart from other construction associations?
We are the leading construction trade association in New York that represents general contractors
and construction managers in both the building and heavy/highway sectors. No other association
has the breadth and scope of programs and services that pertain to contractors no matter where they
are located, whether public or private markets, labor relations posture, volume of work, or any other
metric. Add in the AGC of America and we cover the entire state and country.
So what is our USP? Our USP is that we are a full service contractor organization, and the voice of the
industry in New York State. What other associations are doing in bits and pieces, we do full scale.
What other associations dabble in, we are doing all the time. And, when the AGC NYS speaks, (to
borrow from E.F. Hutton), people listen.
Now, what is our 15 second elevator speech? (Start the timer) “The AGC NYS is the most powerful
construction trade association in New York, and one of the largest chapters of the AGC of America,
the oldest and most powerful construction trade association in the country. We are an advocate for
our Members in front of government, owners, designers, and anybody that impacts your business.
We have strong programs in the areas of safety and education. Being a Member of the AGC NYS and
AGC of America shows your clients and your staff that you are serious about being on the cutting
edge of the construction industry with technology, safety, and professional development.”
Then the next question, “shouldn’t you be a Member?”
Don’t forget about our Member Incentive Recruitment Program - recruit a Member and reduce your
dues. For more information, call (518) 456-1134.
