Every country in the world excels at one thing or another: France has wine, Italy has<br />

pasta, Russia vodka and the Czech Republic delicious, refreshing, bitter golden beer.<br />

Czechs are justly proud and passionate about their beer, and of the fact they statistically<br />

drink more beer per head than anywhere else in the world. Czech hops, the key<br />

ingredient in beer, have been renowned for centuries as the finest grown anywhere,<br />

and many breweries date back to medieval times. To paraphrase an old Czech saying:<br />

“Bread is the staff of life, and Czech beer is liquid bread.” Our Beer Tours are aimed be<br />

educate about beer and the Czech lands, and are also a lot of fun and a lot of beer.<br />

10. 00 or 13.00 - Meeting at the hotel lobby<br />

with your beer guide, who will take you to the Staropramen brewery. Of all Czech beers,<br />

Staropramen is the one most closely associated with the city of <strong>Prague</strong>. It was founded in<br />

1869 in the working class suburb of Smichov, close to the river. We will have a guided tour<br />

of the working brewery, which will be followed by a tasting session.<br />

Lunch in the Czech pub „U Medvídků“<br />

Lunch at the traditional Czech pub U Medvedku is an honest-to-goodness treat for beer<br />

aficionados! U Medvídků (The Small Bears) has been a pub in the centre of <strong>Prague</strong> for 500<br />

years, and serves up as its staple a wonderful creamy Budvar (the original Budweiser brewed<br />

in South Bohemia), as well as its own unpasteurised microbrew, Ungelt. U Medvídků specialises<br />

in traditional Czech cuisine, which is the ideal complement to beer. Dumplings, goulash, sauerkraut, pork knee with<br />

horseradish top the bill. For the adventurous U Medvídků offers beer-flavoured ice-cream, and also what is claimed to<br />

be the strongest beer in the world at 13% alcohol.<br />
