Breweries, Castle and Countryside
Duration: 8 hours
This day of course is all about beer, and you will visit two
prime breweries, but it also gives you the chance to leave the
city limits of Prague, experience the lush rolling hills of the
Bohemian countryside, and even visit a castle as well.

9.30 – pick up at hotel, and transfer to Konopiště Castle.
This chateau is set in idyllic, forested countryside and
overlooks a lake (great for bathing in summer). It was the
cherished hunting retreat of Archduke Ferdinand, the last
legitimate successor of the Habsburg monarchy, whose
infamous Sarajevo assassination in 1914 was the final catalyst
for the First World War. During the tour we will walk around
this very Austro-Hungarian chateau, beloved by film crews, and full of Habsburg reliquaries and hunting trophies.
12.00 – We will move to the nearby provincial town of Benešov, home of the brewery named after the ill-fated
Archduke. Although Ferdinand is a smaller and less well-known brewery, beer experts rank the flavour highly. We
will have a short brewery tour, sample and then lunch in the brewery restaurant.
14.00 – We will then drive through the Bohemian countryside to the famous Kozel brewery in the tiny town of Velké
Popovice. The tour here starts at the brewery courtyard, with the commentary focusing on its history. We will then walk
through the living brewery with a guide to witness the
live brewing, fermenting and bottling process before of
course sampling the end product.
When we are ready we head back to Prague.
