MCH opens new Boys Ranch activities center
MCH hosted a ribbon-cutting
ceremony on August 1 for the
newly-constructed Boys Ranch
Recreation and Activities
Center, a facility that has been
in the hearts and minds of staff
for years.
Trey Oakley, vice president
of development, was eager to
see the realization of that longstanding
vision.
“I am so grateful to the donors
and friends who stepped
forward to help us realize this
dream,” Oakley said. “The addition
of this facility helps to
further the vision of our organization
to provide exceptional
care for youth.”
The facility, which will be
used for a variety of activities,
includes a basketball court, office
and kitchenette.
The Recreation and Activities Center features a basketball court, office and kitchenette.
Ranch youth were excited
to host special guests for the
ribbon cutting, especially MCH
Board member Dick Kenyon.
When Kenyon attended the
groundbreaking for the facility
in October 2008, he challenged
the boys to a free-throw contest
once the gymnasium was complete.
The boys did not forget
his challenge, and they came
to the ribbon cutting excited to
show off their skills. However,
Kenyon made good on his challenge
and won the shooting
contest.
For MCH staff, having an
indoor recreation facility provides
a place where youth can
channel their energy into positive
athletic pursuits.
“Sports and athletics are
interwoven throughout the
lives of our kids,” said Bobby
Gilliam, MCH president,
during the ribbon-cutting
ceremony. “Our goal is not to
teach kids how to win or lose,
but how to excel in the midst of
difficulty.”
