Key Management
Chief Executive Officer - John Porter
John Porter has served as a director of AUSTAR and as its CEO since June 1999. Porter served as
Managing Director of AUSTAR from February 1997, before which he spent two years as COO of
AUSTAR Entertainment and was primarily involved in the rollout of its business. Porter was appointed
Chairman of the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association in 2003. He holds a Bachelor
of Arts in History.
Manager, Strategy & Corporate Finance – Chris Chapman
Chris Chapman joined AUSTAR in August, 2000 and was appointed Manager for Strategy & Corporate
Finance in August 2002, responsible for corporate development, business analysis and strategy.
Chapman is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and holds a Master of Commerce and is
a Bachelor of Science.
Director, Products & Services - Warwick Denby
Warwick Denby joined AUSTAR in early 2000. His role is to ensure that AUSTAR develops and maintains
a compelling suite of television, Internet and mobile products. Denby has over 12 years of product
development, marketing and programming experience and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Auckland
University.
The Future
AUSTAR is due to rollout a WiMAX broadband network in 2006 estimated to cost AU$ 50 million
(approximately US$ 38m, May 2006). It will be available in around 25 locations serving approximately
750,000 homes in Australia.
Another focus for 2006 is increasing the number of subscribers to the New AUSTAR Digital TV
subscription service and maintaining a low APRU across its subscriber base.
2006 is not planned to be a year of change for AUSTAR Mobile, with little reference to it in company
reports and presentation material. Subscriber numbers seem to have peaked in 2004/5 at around 30,500;
however AUSTAR has always been clear that AUSTAR Mobile is an additional revenue stream and
benefit to customers, but it is not their core business.
