2. How to find wedding
photographers Other professionals
involved in your wedding day may
be able to recommend wedding
photographers that they regularly
work with. Search professional
websites for local photographers
and it can be beneficial to book
a photographer who knows your
wedding venue as they may know
where to position themselves for the
best angles.
3
3. Meet prospective wedding
photographers As well as viewing
a photographer’s work on-line it is
important to meet in person so that
you can view their wedding albums
and see whether you like each
other. It is important that you feel
comfortable with them and they may
offer a pre-wedding shoot – this gives
you the opportunity to get to know
them a bit better before the big day.
You need to like the person and their
work!
4. What to look for Consider whether
you prefer a more formal or casual,
candid style of photography for your
wedding. When looking at a potential
5
photographer’s portfolio look to see
whether people look natural in the
photographs, or self-conscious and
uncomfortable. A good photographer
should be able to make their subjects
feel relaxed to get the best results.
Do the pictures capture the emotions
of the day?
5. Check what is included Determine
how much of your wedding day will
be covered – you may decide to just
have coverage of the ceremony or
you may like to have the entire day
captured from getting ready to the
last dance. Will there be a second
camera-person or an assistant, is
an album included or just a digital
package, does the photographer have
insurance?
6
6. Prepare a list of ‘must-have’
photographs that you would like
your photographer to ensure they
take on the day.
7
7. Sign a contract It is recommended
that both you and the photographer
sign a contract to remind both parties
of the services agreed upon.
Questions you might like to ask:
o How many professional weddings have
you photographed?
o What cameras do you use? Even if this
doesn’t mean much to you, you want to
know that your chosen photographer has
decent camera equipment.
o Do you have back-up equipment?
o Are you insured? What does this cover?
o What happens if it rains?
o Do you know the wedding venue?
o What’s included in the price?
o Do you have testimonials/references?
o How soon can we see the photos after
the wedding and when will we receive
the album?
