A JEWEL IN THE CROWN...
ON OUR DOORSTEP!
Laithwaite’s Wine
English sparkling wines used to be a
bit of a joke, however in the last few
years it’s become a world leader,
with numerous international awards, rave
reviews from the top wine critics and a
glowing endorsement from the British
market.
Windsor Great Park is home to many
amazing things, but perhaps its best kept
secret is a beautiful vineyard which in a
very short period of time will be producing
one of the UK’s most exclusive sparkling
wines.
The journey started with a conversation
between Major General Sir Michael Hobbs
(former Governor of The Military Knights)
at his home in Windsor Castle, and Anne
Linder, Laithwaites Wine development
Manager.
After a short search the perfect site was
found at Mezel Hill, and the partnership
between Laithwaites Wine & The Royal
Farm began on Monday 9th May 2011 when
the first vines were planted with a classic
blend of 55% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir &
10% Pinot Meunier.
England’s cooler temperature and chalky
‘terroir’ are ideal for producing excellent
quality sparkling wine to rival the very best
the World has to offer, we hope the maiden
vintage will be released in 2016, which
coincidentally happens to be the Queen’s
90th birthday!
It’s at around this time of year that all
wine makers in the UK pray (even harder
that we the general public) for sun, it’s at
this time that the grapes ripen fully and the
process of creating wine in the form we
all know and love begins. Too much rain
means that the grapes become plump and
diluted, so pray for SUN!
