(426 firms) use patents (figure 3.24). Only 8 per cent<br />

(85 firms) claim copyright protection. A large number<br />

of respondents, almost 40 per cent (435 firms) rely<br />

on trust between staff members for IP protection.<br />

Figure 3.25 shows some important differences,<br />

by sector, between the popularity of IP measures.<br />

Firms in manufacturing, hotels and restaurants, and<br />

other services follow the general pattern of citing<br />

trademarks, trust and patents as the most frequently<br />
