Public Launch of the Stourbridge

The 2012 Portland Vase Project -
Recreation of a Masterpiece
Graham will be talking about his new
book to tie in with the unveiling of the
Stourbridge Portland Vase. He will also
be showing excerpts from “The Crystal
Mile” DVD accompanying his book of
the same name.

Shelley Doolan - The use of
CAD/CAM in a Glass Practice
Shelley will discuss the use of CAD/
CAM in her own work and illustrate
with examples of others who work in
this area. Her talk will be followed by
a question and answer session.
Aonghus Gordon - Reimagining
Glass from the Inside Out
The Transformation of one of
Stourbridge’s oldest glassmaking
sites as a result of Aonghus’s initial
vision and the subsequent work of
the Ruskin Mill Trust.

Catherine Hough - The Evolution of
Hot Glass and the Studio Movement

Launch of the Contemporary Glass
Society Medallions Exhibition

David Whitehouse – Stourbridge
Glass at the Corning Museum
David Whitehouse, originally from
Worcestershire, now Senior Scholar
at the Corning Museum of Glass,
will deliver a fascinating insight
into the influence of Stourbridge
Glassmakers on the American
glass scene.

Alison Kinnaird -
The Appreciation Window
Alison Kinnaird MBE will talk about her
recently completed commission for
the Scottish National Portrait Gallery -
the Appreciation Window. The window,
which took more than 2 years to
complete, involved the engraving
of up to 25 portraits, including that
of HM the Queen.

Ian Hankey - Looking to the Past
for a Sustainable Future
Ian will look at the way glassmakers
used reflective rationality before the
industrial revolution and how the
introduction of modern technical
rationality has eroded the credibility of
the craftsman in modern society.

Andrew Brewerton - Glass Tantra:
the Art of Yang Hui-shan
Focusing on the work of the Chinese
artist Loretta H.S. Yang, this lecture will
explore and illustrate the complex
relationship between Buddhism,
glass and art making. Presenting for
the first time to a Western
audience, wide-ranging critical
reflections, insight and understanding
of the unique achievement of
a major international figure in
contemporary glass.

Dick Marquis - Dick’s First
Powerpoint Presentation
Five decades of Dick’s odd work.

Vanessa Cutler -
New Technologies in Glass
Vanessa will discuss her recently
published book (of the same name)
and will share the work of artists who
produce work utilising waterjet, surface
and sub surface laser engraving, rapid
prototyping, machining and vinyl.
