Confident Collecting<br />

The ever-popular and free Confident<br />

Collecting tours are back with the<br />

Biennale Exhibition Organiser and<br />

Curator, Michelle Keeling. A chance<br />

to tour the Biennale exhibition after<br />

it has closed for the day with tips on<br />

collecting and insights on the artists to<br />

watch. Book your place at the <strong>Festival</strong><br />

<strong>Of</strong>fice during the <strong>Festival</strong>.<br />

Beginners Fused <strong>Glass</strong> Workshop<br />

During this workshop with glass artist<br />

and designer Paul Floyd, you will learn<br />

the basics of fusing, cutting glass to<br />

a pattern and working with coloured<br />

sheet glass, frits and powders. You will<br />

create an original piece of glasswork<br />

and make your own fused glass<br />

light-catcher.<br />

Have a go at Beadmaking<br />

Beadmaking is a fascinating activity,<br />

learning to heat a rod of glass on the<br />

torch, wrap it around a mandrel and<br />

decorate it with dots and squiggles....<br />

a chance to try this in a small class, but<br />

be careful you could get hooked!<br />

If you have ever wondered whether<br />

glassblowing was for you, this is your<br />

chance to test it out. This 2 hour<br />

session will teach you the basics of<br />

glassblowing in a small group. Your<br />

blown glass will be available to<br />

collect the following day from<br />

Ruskin <strong>Glass</strong> Centre.<br />

Extreme Fusing Taster with Tanya Veit<br />

(in association with Warm <strong>Glass</strong> UK)<br />

In these 2 hour taster sessions<br />

with Tanya Veit, you will learn the<br />

fascinating secrets of Tanya’s method,<br />

called the “Picasso” technique, in<br />

dichroic glass jewellery. Discover how<br />

she creates her intricate collage<br />

designs by building your own Picasso<br />

pendant. You will also create a 3-4<br />

layer chemical etched scenic piece,<br />

using foreground and background.<br />

Finished work will need to be collected<br />

from the Ruskin <strong>Glass</strong> Centre after firing.<br />

Introduction to <strong>Glass</strong>blowing<br />

A wonderful introduction to the art<br />

of glassblowing with Martin Andrews.<br />

You will cover the basics including<br />

gathering, shaping and forming;<br />

learning to develop hand eye<br />

co-ordination and rhythm to turn,<br />

stretch and control the molten glass.<br />

You will start by making solid forms,<br />

before progressing to blowing the<br />

glass to create clear & coloured bowls,<br />

vases and your own masterpieces!<br />

Naturally you get to keep your piece,<br />

which you collect the next day.<br />
