Evaluation for dissection of rat hippocampus<br />
using stereoscopic microscope system is<br />
demonstrated. Many animal anatomies are<br />
anatomized with stereoscopic microscope.<br />
The environments of anatomy are important<br />
factor to dissector. Lights, reflected on the<br />
liquid, colors and eye fatigue are fatal to<br />
dissector. We reduced reflections with two<br />
incident angle of lights at 45 degree and<br />
used a complementary color at the basement.<br />
Dissector has felt more comfortable after<br />
compensation and the time of anatomy is<br />
reduced.<br />

We propose and experimentally demonstrate<br />
a novel optical fiber gratings with multiple<br />
resonant peaks and their application to<br />
multiwavelength light sources with continuous<br />
FSR tunability. The wavelength spacing of<br />
all-fiber multichannel filter based on the<br />
proposed specialty grating can be continuously<br />
controlled by the variation of reflection chirp<br />
bandwidth because the tension and compression<br />
strain can effectively controls the<br />
chirp ratio along the grating.<br />

Fabrication and electro-optic applications<br />
of glass fibers with electro-optic Kerr effect<br />
were described. Glass fibers with internal<br />
electrodes were fabricated by MCVD, drilling,<br />
fiber drawing processes, and injection of a<br />
molten alloy. Several electro-optic devices<br />
based on the polarimetric cells made by the<br />
fibers were also described.<br />

Chalcogenide glasses and optical fibers<br />

manufactured and characterized their properties<br />
for near and mid-IR applications.<br />
Rod-in-tube and double crucible method<br />
were introduced to achieve single mode<br />
chalcogenide optical fiber. Rare earth doped<br />
selenide and sulfide optical fibers were<br />
drawn and their potential for an optical fiber<br />
amplifier as well as a gain medium in mid-IR<br />
range was examined.<br />

filter composed of an optical collimator with<br />

proposed and demonstrated. The measured<br />
extinction ratio was larger than 24 dB and<br />
the insertion loss and the PDL of the<br />
implemented filter were less than 1.52 dB<br />

structure employing an external<br />
CW source was presented in a static and<br />

I review the use of short length of a new<br />
class of ultra-high nonlinearity optical fiber<br />
to implement two different types of NRZ<br />
wavelength converters: One is based on<br />
FWM and the other is XPM. Owing to both<br />
ultra-high Kerr nonlinearity and high SBS<br />
threshold of the Bi-NLF tunable wavelength<br />
conversion of 10 ~ 40 Gbit/s NRZ signals<br />
is successfully achieved without using any<br />
SBS suppression schemes.<br />

Recent advances in microfluidics and nanophotonics<br />
have led to a new emerging field<br />
of optofluidics. In optofluidics, fluid flows<br />
give the fine adaptivity, mobility and accessibility<br />
to the nanoscale photonic devices<br />
which cannot be achieved in conventional<br />
devices. However, homogeneous fluids phase<br />
gives only a limited level of controllability by<br />
its own property and functionality. Unusual<br />
physical, chemical and biomolecular functions<br />
can be endowed by adding various colloidal<br />
particles and their assemblies into the fluids<br />
and the introduction of such complex colloidal<br />
systems gives breakthrough for materializing<br />
optofluidic systems. In this paper, we will<br />
discussafewexamplesofuniqueandnovel<br />
characteristics of self-assembled colloidal<br />
structures for optofluidic applications.<br />
