ONLINE SERVICES<br />

myFY is an information site designed<br />

specifically for the use of <strong>Foundation</strong> <strong>Year</strong><br />

students. <strong>The</strong> site can be accessed from<br />

anywhere in the world at any time. myFY<br />

provides access to academic calendars and<br />

timetables, student handbooks, online<br />

learning materials, news and information<br />

for students and a secure area which allows<br />

online access to assessment details and<br />

grades.<br />

INTERNET KIOSKS AND O<strong>THE</strong>R<br />

COMPUTER SERVICES<br />

Internet kiosks are located throughout the<br />

<strong>Foundation</strong> <strong>Year</strong> building for quick reference<br />

to myFY information. Wireless internet access<br />

and computer centres provide opportunities<br />

for longer periods of use.<br />

ACCOMMODATION<br />

A range of accommodation options is<br />

available including homestay, Acacia<br />

Cottages, hostel facilities and rental<br />

properties (houses and apartments). Students<br />

under the age of 18 have several options<br />

available including homestay and Acacia<br />

Cottages. IES Student Services staff will<br />

be happy to assist all new students to find<br />

appropriate accommodation.<br />

If desired accommodation can be arranged<br />

for an initial 4 week period (rental charges<br />

are specified in the Letter of Offer). Students<br />

may continue in this accommodation after<br />

the first four weeks.<br />

HOMESTAY<br />

Living in an Australian household will give<br />

students the opportunity to experience<br />

Australia’s multi-cultural heritage and way<br />

of life, get to know the basic geography of<br />

<br />

system. English is the primary language<br />

in all homestay households. IES partners<br />

with Australian Homestay Network (AHN)<br />

to provide all homestay for IES students.<br />

AHN staff are co- located on campus at IES<br />

and are available for student consultations<br />

and assistance during college hours. All IES<br />

homestays are carefully selected and regularly<br />

monitored to meet IES requirements and<br />

all provide each student with their own<br />

bedroom in a safe and secure environment.<br />

Homestay hosts are based in areas with<br />

convenient public transport to IES. Travelling<br />

time to IES will vary between 30 minutes to<br />

one hour by public transport. Students are<br />

expected to stay a minimum of four weeks<br />

but can stay longer if they desire.<br />

ACACIA COTTAGES<br />

Acacia Cottages (see images on right) are<br />

located in Wedd St, Spring Hill (the street<br />

behind IES). Students aged under 18 years<br />

are welcome as well as other students.<br />

Acacia Cottages consists of two modern<br />

<br />

number of single bedrooms, kitchen, living<br />

rooms, dining rooms and balconies. Some<br />

bedrooms have an attached ensuite while<br />

others will share a bathroom with one other<br />

student.<br />

Acacia Cottages is self-catering—students<br />

can use the kitchen which is fully equipped<br />

with cookware etc. All linen except bath<br />

towels is also provided. Internet access is also<br />

provided throughout both cottages.<br />

ACCOMMODATION<br />

IES accommodation staff maintain a register<br />

of accommodation convenient to IES and<br />

suitable for student living. Our staff are<br />

available to provide advice and assistance in<br />

the selection of appropriate accommodation.<br />

AIRPORT TRANSFER<br />

IES can arrange for new students to be met<br />

changes to flight details. Please contact IES in<br />

advance to arrange this service.<br />

Note: this service is for students only. For students<br />

under 18, airport transfer is compulsory.<br />
