I was among one of the first
group of students to pass through
UQFY in 1998. I cannot forget
how caring, friendly and helpful
the teachers were when I was in
foundation year. As our year had

UQFY in February 2005, I joined
ICTE (Institute for Continuing
and TESOL Education) for 30
weeks to improve my English.
This was helpful too, as I was
able to become familiar with life
my foundation studies at UQFY.
At the end of Foundation Year,
I was awarded a scholarship
from the Faculty of Social and
Education dual degree at UQ.
I have been an ambassador for
the university, showing students
campus and talking to them
about my life in Australia.
I am now working as a
Secondary School Teacher in
Western Australia, but one
day I would like to return to
Queensland and teach there.
The friends I made at UQFY and
UQ will be some of the best
friends I have my whole life.
UQFY helped me understand the
social, economical, political and
historical background of Australia.
This inspired me to study Political
at UQ. I graduated from this
course in 2008.
If I had gone straight to
University without completing the
Foundation Year, I would have
found it very hard to adapt to
the different styles of teaching.
UQFY gave me that introduction
and showed me what my life at
university would be like.
Now I have started my own
company, which imports and
exports different products to and
from Australia. I am also studying
and very busy.
The best part of UQFY is meeting
a lot of interesting people from all
around the world and being able
to interact with them on a daily
basis over the duration of the
program. This is an opportunity
that not a lot of people have, even
if they travel overseas.
