I was among one of the first
group of students to pass through
UQFY in 1998. I cannot forget
how caring, friendly and helpful
the teachers were when I was in
foundation year. As our year had
a smaller intake of students we
became a tight-knit group and
had a lot of good times together.

staff were caring, helpful and
dedicated teachers, I felt well
prepared when I finished my
studies and went on to study a

of Arts at UQ.

friends at UQFY, my university life
was even more enjoyable.

and am the Director of my own
export company. I enjoy the
challenges and the learning
experiences that this business
provides.
In the future I hope to expand my
company’s business and keep in
touch with many of my friends
from Foundation Year and UQ.
When I was preparing to study in

best foundation year program
in Queensland. As a Year 11
student in China, it was the
fastest way for me to become an
undergraduate student at UQ.

study and is full of opportunities
for employment and business.
UQFY helped me transition
from a non-English learning
background to undergraduate
study. I made lots of friends,
and together we completed a

and now all have careers in

I have been working full time
since August 2009, just one
month after graduation. I am
a Site Engineer for a principal
contractor for Coal Seam Gas
companies.
My next goal is to complete
a Professional Development
Program with Engineers Australia
and become a Project Engineer.
I would encourage other students
to study in Australia and believe
UQ foundation year is the best
way to start.

UQFY in February 2005, I joined
ICTE (Institute for Continuing
and TESOL Education) for 30
weeks to improve my English.
This was helpful too, as I was
able to become familiar with life

my foundation studies at UQFY.
At the end of Foundation Year,
I was awarded a scholarship
from the Faculty of Social and

Education dual degree at UQ.
I have been an ambassador for
the university, showing students

campus and talking to them
about my life in Australia.
I am now working as a
Secondary School Teacher in
Western Australia, but one
day I would like to return to
Queensland and teach there.
The friends I made at UQFY and
UQ will be some of the best
friends I have my whole life.
UQFY helped me understand the
social, economical, political and
historical background of Australia.
This inspired me to study Political

at UQ. I graduated from this
course in 2008.
If I had gone straight to
University without completing the
Foundation Year, I would have
found it very hard to adapt to
the different styles of teaching.
UQFY gave me that introduction
and showed me what my life at
university would be like.
Now I have started my own
company, which imports and
exports different products to and
from Australia. I am also studying

and very busy.
The best part of UQFY is meeting
a lot of interesting people from all
around the world and being able
to interact with them on a daily
basis over the duration of the
program. This is an opportunity
that not a lot of people have, even
if they travel overseas.
