This program is designed for candidates who are engaged in applied business research as<br />
part of their career development, or for research professionals who wish to support their<br />
career development with doctoral study.<br />
Candidates will pursue a supervised program of study and research leading to the<br />
submission of a portfolio of written work.<br />
PROGRAM STRUCTURE<br />
To complete the program, a candidate will normally study for an expected period of 4 years<br />
full-time or 8 years part-time. New applicants may apply at any time of the year. Continuing<br />
candidates will be re-enrolled by the Office of Research at the beginning of each academic<br />
year. Candidates who may be required to complete prescribed courses will be enrolled in a<br />
separate program.<br />
The program of study shall consist of:<br />
• coursework as determined by the Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean; and<br />
• 3 supervised research studies (completed at a standard necessary for international<br />
refereed journal publication as per DEEWR disciplinary listings) to be submitted for<br />
examination as a research portfolio.<br />
Consultation with the Associate Dean (Research and Innovation) of the Faculty of Arts,<br />
Business, Informatics and Education will assist applicants to determine eligibility for<br />
admission, to identify the proposed areas of research and to ascertain the availability of<br />
suitable supervisors.<br />

The Doctor of Professional Studies program is an internationally recognised higher research<br />
degree designed to produce innovation in commercial and other applied settings. Whereas<br />
the PhD, DBA, EdD and other ‘professional’ doctorates are single-discipline based, the<br />
CQUniversity Doctor of Professional Studies is explicitly transdisciplinary to reflect the way<br />
research is carried out in industry and government. The Doctor of Professional Studies is<br />
a challenging real-world alternative to theoretical doctoral programs but with the same<br />
standard of academic rigour. The Doctor of Professional Studies is accredited in accordance<br />
with the Australian Qualifications Framework and complies with the Australian Government<br />
requirements for a doctorate degree. The post-nominal award is DProfSt.<br />
PROGRAM STRUCTURE<br />
The program engages candidates in the exploration and construction of new knowledge in<br />
transdisciplinary contexts where the identification and solution of practical problems in the<br />
day-to-day life of its practitioners and organisations is the focus.<br />
Candidates are uniquely supported through the program by:<br />
• 6 courses delivered in weekend blocks to guide students in Mode 2 knowledge<br />
frameworks, transdisciplinary and applied research methods for specific industry settings,<br />
populations and problems;on-going, on-line or in-person guidance with a dedicated Doctor<br />
of Professional Studies advisory team;<br />
• an academic supervisor;<br />
• an industrial advisor.<br />

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is a program of supervised research and study addressing<br />
a range of possible fields. The research will lead to the submission of a thesis which makes<br />
a significant original contribution to knowledge. This contribution can be in the form of new<br />
knowledge or of significant and original adaptation, application and interpretation of existing<br />
knowledge.<br />
