Informative presentation on how to lube a chain, fix a flat, and make other minor adjustments.<br />
Hiking in the Wasatch, Thursday, September 16 th , 7:00 pm<br />
Learn how to dress, footwear choices and the ten essentials everyone should have when they head out on the trail. We’ll<br />
go over local destinations and resources as well.<br />
Geocache Basics, Thursday, September 23 rd , 7:00 pm<br />
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS<br />
devices. Come learn the basics and what you need to get started.<br />
GPS Basics, Thursday, September 30 th , 7:00 pm<br />
Basic overview of features and functions of a GPS unit. Instruction includes GPS setup, capturing waypoints, working with<br />
coordinates, and waypoint navigation.<br />
CLASSES: Registration required online or in person at any REI Customer Service.<br />
Hands-on Bike Maintenance Workshop, Saturday, September 18th, 9:00am-1:00 pm<br />
Bring your bike; either mountain or road. Have basic bike maintenance knowledge or have attended one of our Basic Bike<br />
Maintenance classes. Class size is limited to 5 students. Advance registration required. Cost $95 for REI Members &<br />
$115 for non REI-members.<br />
Camping Basics, Tuesday, September 14 th , 7:00 pm<br />
SALT LAKE CITY - 3285 East & 3300 South<br />
We will cover the basics including camping gear, how to stay warm and comfortable, ideas for fun activities, and local<br />
areas for car camping.<br />
Bike Maintenance Basics for Women, Thursday, September 16 th , 7:00 pm<br />
REI shop techs and women cycling advocates, Tamara and Laura, will demonstrate basic bike maintenance techniques.<br />
Some topics they will cover are: tire pressure, how to change a flat tire, fix a broken chain and how to make minor<br />
derailleur & brake adjustments.<br />
Map & Compass Basics, Tuesday, September 21 st , 7:00 pm<br />
Learn the basics such as map symbols, orienting the map and compass, triangulation, declination adjustment, and reading<br />
terrain. Participants are encouraged to bring their own compasses.<br />
Birds that Eat Birds, Thursday, September 23 rd , 7:00 pm<br />
Jen Hajj of HawkWatch International will discuss the taxonomy and traits of forest hawks and falcons, shedding light on the<br />
bullies of the birdfeeder.<br />
Tales from a Downriver Campfire, Tuesday, September 28 th , 7:00 pm<br />
Film maker and professional storyteller Steven Law will tell his original story It Goes Downhill Fast, a crash course in<br />
rowing Lava Falls when things go bad, and show his film “Sink or Swim”.<br />

Mapping software and how to transfer waypoints to your GPS. Some familiarity with GPS or have attended REI’s GPS<br />
