T i m p a n o g o s H i k e A u g u s t 2 8 , 2 0 1 1 B y M i c h a e l B u d i g We departed from our Sandy meeting site shortly after 7:00 a.m. and were hiking on the Timpanooke Trail an hour later. <strong>The</strong> weather was ideal and the trail was wet from overnight thundershowers, keeping the dust down. <strong>The</strong> conditions were about three weeks behind the normal season due to the late winter, which meant the flowers were near peak, the trail was overgrown in places, and some snow piles obstructed the trail. Dalphne Turner and Dave Andrenyak hiking up Timp In addition to those conditions, we were delayed considerably trying to figure out how to deal with one somewhat steeply angled snowfield over a gully, with a deep undercut due to the stream running underneath. At this point, Vicky McDaniel chose to turn around and I did not try to talk her into proceeding further into anything that she was not comfortable with. After Vicky left, the rest of us proceeded to the Summit under mostly sunny and beautiful weather. Timpanogos is my favorite Wasatch hike and features everything in terms of vegetation, wildlife, scenery, plus a good physical challenge. I have been on the trail nearly every year since moving to Utah, and have probably reached the summit about 27 times, I estimate. And I like to point out Nancy Dunlap, Dianne Dedrickson, Michael Budig and Phyllis Anderson on top of Timpanogos how much better the view is now, especially of Utah Valley and Provo than it was 30 years ago when an ugly dark smoke spewed from Geneva Steel and polluted the whole valley. This was the first time on Timpanogos for Daphne Turner and the second time for Vicky McDaniel and Dianne Dedrickson. Mark Bloomenthal and Dave Andrenyak have been on Timpanogos a few times in recent years, while Phyllis Anderson has been on the trail numerous times, although not in recent years. However, this hike in August 2011 was a beautiful glorious day to share a great hike on a great trail. 12
