The Langham London has a rich and diverse history dating
back to 1814. Originally built as a mansion, it was only in
1863 that it was converted into a hotel, including the first
ever hydraulic lifts, for the then astronomical amount of
£300,000. For almost a century, The Langham remained
the place to stay for visiting elite, royalty, statesmen, artists,
writers and musicians. Even during the First World War, it was
business as usual, with guests sheltering in the basement on
wicker chairs and cushions during raids.
The designers wanted to create a suite that was contemporary
and opulent, the sort of place that made guests feel sexy
and special. Their vision was realised by combining materials
such as velvet, silk taffeta and toile with clever lighting and
artwork to create a space that inspired endless possibilities
and experiences for every guest.
Which brings us to their Pièce de résistance - an infinity bath
in the master bedroom called the sōk. This ultra deep bath,
from iconic bathroom brand Kohler, constantly overflows to
create the sound of cascading water. Designed around the
concept of chromatherapy, at the touch of a button, the water
moves through a spectrum of eight colours (from relaxing to
stimulating) while the gentle massaging of Champagne-like
bubbles accentuates the therapeutic experience.

After the depression and World War II, the building took on
a new role by housing the Palm Court Orchestra, a handful
of BBC comedy acts and BBC’s library and bar. In 1986, after
a failed attempt to get the building demolished, the tide
