understated and luxe. Each of the master suites has a deep
and decadent freestanding tub, perfect for an evening soak
while enjoying the solitude and dare I say it, views, of the
distant twinkling lights of the city we’d left behind.
Downstairs is home to a large rustic entertainment area with
bar and small separate library that has an interesting selection
of titles. If the walk down to your own private pebble beach
sounds a tad too strenuous, relax… there’s a 17-metre
infinity pool that is heated to just the right temperature. The
gardens are well worth a leisurely wander or for the more
energetic, sample one of the nearby bush walks. And if all
the relaxing has left you restless, the residence has a Range
Rover at your disposal to explore the island. Just remember
though that if wine tasting is on the agenda, perhaps it may
be best to leave the Rover in the garage. There is also an
onsite helipad for guest’s convenience.

Upper level seaward side is a wall of floor to ceiling glass to
make the most of the view. Interior is warm an inviting and
a perfect example of understated luxury.
Business needs: Caters to corporate clients with large
conference facilities and helipad for easy access.
What’s great: The unbelievable location! Also liked every
room having an ensuite and the choice of a private beach
for exclusive use and an infinity, heated pool.
What’s not so great: The water went cold after the first
shower which was a tad annoying. No doubt this is
easily fixed.
Editor’s tips: Leave your car at home and make use of the
Range Rover and take some friends, this place is perfect
for a group.

All in all, Fossil Cove is an exquisite property. It’s absolutely
luxurious but in a homely, understated and inviting way…
with not a sniff of pretentiousness anywhere. Pricewise, it’s
not cheap. But if you take into account the size and quality
of the residence, it’s the ideal place for a family or group of
friends to enjoy and share the cost. And it will be well worth
it for a slice of this Waiheke wonderland… even if only for
the weekend.
