Environ 10% de la population du Lesotho comprend des orphelins et
des enfants vulnérables (OEV). Ces enfants sont confrontés à des défis
socio-économiques quotidiennes qui incluent l’abandon des études en
raison du manque de fonds pour payer les frais de scolarité et d'autres
besoins de l'école ou de la nécessité de rester à la maison pour prendre
soin d'un parent malade ou des frères et sœurs. Ces enfants sont ainsi
privés de l'éducation si déterminante pour leur avenir. Caritas Lesotho
a travaillé avec les OEV et avec ceux qui les encadrent au Conseil de la
Communauté Khutlo-se-Metsi dans les régions montagneuses du
Lesotho pour améliorer leur prise en charge.
En 2012, Caritas Lesotho a facilité la formation professionnelle de 34
OEV. Après la formation, des outils ont té remis à ces OEV pour
démarrer leurs projets individuels. Cependant, ces efforts furent vains
parce qu’ils pouvaient se permettre d'acheter du matériel et d'avoir un
atelier pour travailler. Grâce à l'appui financier de Caritas Internationalis
et de Catholic Relief Services, Caritas Lesotho a cette année facilité la
construction d'un atelier pour qu’ils puissent opérer ainsi que l'achat de
matériel (machines à coudre, cuisinière à gaz, entre autres). En plus de
cela, ils ont été formés en gestion de base pour améliorer leurs
compétences.

Lesotho has been working with
OVC and their caregivers in the
Khutlo-se-Metsi Community
Council in the highlands of
Lesotho to improve their care
and support.
In 2012, Caritas Lesotho facilitated
vocational training of 34 OVC at
the Bishop Allard Vocational
School. Following the training,
these OVC were provided with
starter pack tools to kick-start their
individual projects. How-ever,
these efforts proved futile because
these OVC could not afford to buy
material and did not have a place
to work as most of their homes
comprise of a one-roomed hut
which serve as both a kitchen and
bedroom for the household
members.
