With the conclusion of the GPS Rugby season
just behind us, is it a great time to reflect on how
our community integrated all elements of school
life and has created a place where elite athletes
and musicians can stand on the same field to
thunderous cheers from the Terrace supporters
in the stands. Continuing our relatively new
tradition of having the Drumline support the
Rugby games has grown in its acceptance to a
point where atmosphere is void of punch when
they are not there.
Prior to the last game of the season, our Principal
Dr Michael Carroll, Director Sport Mr Damian
Wright and I sat together to plan the future and
build the supporter atmosphere through the
further inclusion of our ‘Athletics Bands’.
From this, the ‘Call to Arms’ was devised to bring
in the supporters from the surrounding fields and
give an aural energy to the fields. This was adopted
by our supporters and was a great success. Next
year will see us integrate the Athletics Bands
further into our sporting programing. Like many
other schools and colleges in the USA, these two
parts of school life walk hand-in-hand.
Bringing the Pep Band, Drumline and Rock
Bands to Tennyson will take ‘Terrace to the Fore’
of all GPS schools as Terrace Sport and Terrace
Culture work together as ‘Terrace’.
