Winter/Snow Season
We kindly ask that you refrain from winter activities on both of our golf
courses during the winter season. We do not allow tubing, tobogganing,
sledding, saucering, skiing, snowboarding or any other winter activity on
either course during winter months. Damage caused by these activities
becomes apparent in the spring and playing conditions are greatly
sacrificed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Golf Tip — Putting
As we move into winter and temperatures prevent many of us from heading out to the golf course, take the opportunity to work on simple putting
fundamentals in the comfort of your own home.
I recommend a few basic fundamentals – ball placed slightly left of center (for right handers), eyes over ball and equal back, equal through
with the putter head. Remember that the motion of the putter includes shoulders, arms, hands, putter grip and putter head all working at the same
tempo. Putting is not just a hand activity if you are striving for consistency. PGA and LPGA tour players have tempos of 62–72 beats per minute
regardless of the length of putt they face.
Short putt = short back and slower through – at X tempo | Long putt = longer back and faster through – ALSO at X tempo
You can purchase an inexpensive app for your smartphone to monitor your tempo. I use Metron.
Need help with putting this winter? Have your putting stroke evaluated on our TOMI Putting Stroke Analyzer at the country club golf shop
with Stuart Smith, our PGA director of golf, for $40. Stuart can be reached at 787-1800 ext 705 or email him at ssmith@somersett.com to set an
appointment.
fitness classes
*Please note that FITNESS CLASSES will operate on a LIMITED
L.I.F.T.
We are introducing a new drop-in class to the fitness schedule starting
November 7. L.I.F.T., or Less Intense Functional Training, will focus on
body conditioning to increase flexibility and control weight through low
impact maneuvers and exercise. The class, scheduled from 12–1 pm, will
stand in lieu of our Water Fitness class during the winter.
For a complete description of all our classes, please visit the fitness
Personal Training
Personal training is a great way to get personalized routines designed to
increase your performance and fitness results. And if you’re new to the
gym or coming back after some time off, our personal trainers can help
you get back into shape safely with faster results. Please check out the
sports tab of our website for personal training specials and tips.
The Club at Town Center has a great fitness tool to track personal
achievements. Fitassess.com is a web-based fitness assessment program
that gives personal trainers the tools to conduct a complete physical
assessment for their clients. Tests include BMI, blood pressure, body
fat analysis, body measurements, cardiovascular fitness, strength,
flexibility and muscular endurance. The program compiles these
results for a ranking that is compared to national averages, and it also
provides a number for a body’s fitness age. This information is useful
for determining a starting point and making it easy to set realistic
goals. It’s also a means of tracking your overall improvement, which
boosts motivation and keeps you focused on your training. For more
information or to set up your physical assessment session, please speak
to any of our personal trainers.
Youth Basketball League
Youth Basketball begins just around the corner in mid-February, and you won’t want
to miss out on this annual league led by Coach John Franklin. It’s a very popular
program, so be on the lookout for registration forms in January and sign up early to
reserve your spot! We will be offering two age groups to better accommodate all of the
children. More details will follow as we approach the end of the year.

Winter Adult Spa
The winter spa will open on Friday, November 1 for use within the
hours of 8 am to 8 pm, and 8 am to 7 pm on Sundays. Usage is strictly
for adults only; no one under the age of 18 will be allowed on the pool
deck. Please check in at the concierge desk to use the spa.
WINTER SPA RULES
1. The winter spa adjacent to the play pool is for adults (18+) only.
2. Extended exposure to hot water or vapors may be detrimental
to the health of elderly persons and persons with heart conditions,
diabetes or high or low blood pressure.
3. People with skin, ear, genital or other body infections, open sores
or wounds should not use the hot tub because of the possibility of
spreading infection.
4. Patrons must not allow water in their mouths as this can cause
infection and illness.
5. The heat of the hot tub water speeds up the effects of alcohol and
can cause sleepiness, dizziness and unconsciousness.
6. Horse playing, splashing and swimming are not permitted in the
spa.
The Club’s professional masseuse, Marian Miller, is
famous for her signature royal treatment and deep tissue
massage. Other specialties including hot stones, towel
treatments and foot scrubs. Schedule your appointment for a little
holiday TLC by calling 247-3969 or visiting Marian online at
following: “I authorize Somersett Owners Association to send me all
communications electronically in lieu of hard copies.”
Rental Rules & Regulations Reminder
Are you renting your home in Somersett? In order for your tenant to
receive access to the Club at Town Center and the Canyon Nine,
both the owner and renter must fill out an Assignment of Rights form
and bring in both a copy of the current lease and appropriate proof of
residency for occupants. For any questions on homeowner or renter
To report a non-compliance, please email or call Sean Stapleton at
sstapleton@mysomersett.com or 787-4500 ext 322.
Please note that while we do investigate and document each
complaint received, we cannot disclose the status of anyone’s account.
Should a homeowner not respond to or correct a violation, he or she
will be summoned to a hearing at which time they could be suspended
from the Club and assessed fines. Once fines reach $500, a lien could
be placed on the property. At this time the Association has a policy not
to enter a property, unless it is bank owned, and then only to repair front
yard landscaping.
Did you know?
The AGC guideline for landscaping states, “The AGC may grant
extensions to the following completion requirements for cause, if
a variance request is submitted by the owner for consideration and
approval. Side and rear yard landscaping shall be installed within
180 days of issuance of a certificate of occupancy. On Custom Lots,
the front yard and parkway strip must be installed within 90 days of
certificate of occupancy.” Please be aware that your rear and side yard
landscaping need to be submitted for AGC review and approval before
installation of the landscaping, and that landscaping must be installed
within 180 days of the purchase your home. Please follow the guidelines
in order to avoid possible violations and suspension of Club privileges.
To request an extension, email soa@mysomersett.com.
holiday decorations
Holiday decorations may be installed up to 10 days
before a holiday and must be taken down within
10 days after the holiday, with the exception of the
December holidays. December decorations may be installed
at Thanksgiving and must be removed by January 31.
