<strong>George</strong> <strong>Simmons</strong> <strong>House</strong> is a retirement<br />
housing scheme with 35 flats in total,<br />
consisting of both single and double<br />
bedroom flats.<br />
We have a communal area for residents to<br />
socialise with each other and take part in<br />
activities as well as a small kitchen facility<br />
available. There is also a hearing loop in<br />
these areas which allows partially deaf people<br />
to take part in actvities and meetings.<br />
We have a guest room for visitors to stay in<br />
with two single beds and ensuite facilities.<br />
There is a charge per person per night and the<br />
room can be booked in advance via the<br />
scheme manager.<br />

Welcoming and supportive<br />
<strong>George</strong> <strong>Simmons</strong> <strong>House</strong> is designed to<br />
encourage independent living. Support is<br />
available if needed.<br />
The scheme is housed under one roof and<br />
the 35 flats are arranged over four floors, all<br />
accessible by lift. There is a door entry<br />
system into the scheme with an intercom link<br />
to each flat.<br />
The scheme is surrounded by trees and<br />
shrubs and patios with flower beds and tubs<br />
which are maintained by both residents and<br />
gardeners.<br />
There are also communal shower facilities<br />
available if needed.<br />
A mobile library, chiropodist and hairdresser<br />
also visit the scheme.<br />
Our services<br />
Care and commitment<br />
All our services are in place to allow residents<br />
to live as independently as they can.<br />
There is a residential scheme manager on site<br />
to encourage independent living. If extra<br />
support is needed, the scheme manager<br />
coordinates with outside agencies to provide<br />
any extra help residents may need. The<br />
scheme manager is available between the<br />
hours of 8 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday.<br />

We also have an on site team of carers who<br />
deliver a first class service to those residents<br />
assessed by Social Services as needing a<br />
care package.<br />
When the scheme manager is off duty, the<br />
scheme is managed by Eldercare via a<br />
telephone service for emergency help.<br />
Activities<br />
Things to do, places to go<br />
Staff encourage residents to organise their<br />
own events and activities as part of our drive<br />
to encourage independent living.<br />
Bingo is played weekly and there are domino<br />
games each evening. Cards are played twice<br />
a week.<br />
There are a number of books provided in the<br />
onsite library at the scheme and there are<br />
occasional sales. The mobile library also<br />
visits the scheme once a month.<br />
Local areas<br />
Getting around<br />
<strong>George</strong> <strong>Simmons</strong> <strong>House</strong> is situated in a<br />
peaceful location behind St Hubert's Church<br />
in Bleakhouse Road in Oldbury.<br />
The M5 and M6 motorways are in easy reach<br />
for people using their own transport and<br />
there are train stations at Langley, Rowley<br />
Regis and Smethwick which are all<br />
reachable via bus, taxi or car.<br />
Within short walking distance there is a<br />
variety of local amenities available including<br />
a doctors surgery, post office, local shops,<br />
supermarket, chemist, pubs, newsagent,<br />
churches and library.<br />
