George Simmons House is a retirement
housing scheme with 35 flats in total,
consisting of both single and double
bedroom flats.
We have a communal area for residents to
socialise with each other and take part in
activities as well as a small kitchen facility
available. There is also a hearing loop in
these areas which allows partially deaf people
to take part in actvities and meetings.
We have a guest room for visitors to stay in
with two single beds and ensuite facilities.
There is a charge per person per night and the
room can be booked in advance via the
scheme manager.

George Simmons House is designed to
encourage independent living. Support is
available if needed.
The scheme is housed under one roof and
the 35 flats are arranged over four floors, all
accessible by lift. There is a door entry
system into the scheme with an intercom link
to each flat.
The scheme is surrounded by trees and
shrubs and patios with flower beds and tubs
which are maintained by both residents and
gardeners.
There are also communal shower facilities
available if needed.
A mobile library, chiropodist and hairdresser
also visit the scheme.
Our services
Care and commitment
All our services are in place to allow residents
to live as independently as they can.
There is a residential scheme manager on site
to encourage independent living. If extra
support is needed, the scheme manager
coordinates with outside agencies to provide
any extra help residents may need. The
scheme manager is available between the
hours of 8 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday.

We also have an on site team of carers who
deliver a first class service to those residents
assessed by Social Services as needing a
care package.
When the scheme manager is off duty, the
scheme is managed by Eldercare via a
telephone service for emergency help.
Activities
Things to do, places to go
Staff encourage residents to organise their
own events and activities as part of our drive
to encourage independent living.
Bingo is played weekly and there are domino
games each evening. Cards are played twice
a week.
There are a number of books provided in the
onsite library at the scheme and there are
occasional sales. The mobile library also
visits the scheme once a month.

Getting around
George Simmons House is situated in a
peaceful location behind St Hubert's Church
in Bleakhouse Road in Oldbury.
The M5 and M6 motorways are in easy reach
for people using their own transport and
there are train stations at Langley, Rowley
Regis and Smethwick which are all
reachable via bus, taxi or car.
Within short walking distance there is a
variety of local amenities available including
a doctors surgery, post office, local shops,
supermarket, chemist, pubs, newsagent,
churches and library.

transport with buses running frequently into
Wolverhampton, Birmingham city centre,
Merry Hill Centre, Bearwood, Smethwick and
Oldbury which offers links to West Bromwich
and other areas in Sandwell and Birmingham.
