8 TAXI |22 SEPTEMBER 2015 www.ltda.co.uk | @TheLTDA NEWS Taxi support group marches on Trade Hundreds of cabbies joined a family protest against the regulatory failures of TfL and helped bring Whitehall to a standstill. The demonstration on Saturday, September 5, in central London was the second one organised by the fast growing protest group, Save Our Black Taxis. It has sprouted from a tiny family run social media group to a full blown movement, which is drawing increasing attention to the plight of the cab trade. Both protests have been well supported by husbands, wives, children and cabbies themselves, all of whom are being failed by TfL’s inability to regulate the industry with an even hand. Organiser and cabbie’s wife, Artemis Mercer, said: “We were really happy with how it went. It was well supported by families, children and cab drivers. There was a go slow by some taxi drivers which brought Whitehall to a standstill.” Save Our Black Taxis has attracted thousands of online supporters, including celebrities, such as motoring journalist Richard Hammond and The Who frontman Roger Daltrey. “There is loads going on – we are planning our next demo for the end of October. We also have a meeting with TfL – we want to make them understand the human side to what’s going on, how families are struggling to survive. We also have a website being developed – we are not just a little a social media group anymore,”artemis said.
