THE CARMEL Chamber of
Commerce’s Taste of Carmel, which expanded
to a weekend of events last year, will
again kick off with its main food-and-wine
tasting Thursday, Oct. 1, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Taking place in the courtyard of the historic
Carmel Mission, the evening will be themed,
“Mission 007: Shaken Not Stirred,” with
many guests expected to appear dressed as
secret agents and spies — and maybe a few
soup to nuts
of the bad guys and gals such agents tend to
pursue.
Arranged around and throughout the
courtyard, local restaurants, food purveyors,
wineries and breweries will share small bites
and sips with the crowd.
Signed on to participate this year are 400
Degrees Gourmet Burgers & Fries, Affina,
Allegro Pizzeria, Andre’s Bouchée, Anton &
Michel, Aubergine, the Barnyard shopping
center, Basil Seasonal Dining, The Brittle
Lady, Cantinetta Luca, Erik’s Deli, The Grill
on Ocean Avenue, Lugano Swiss Bistro,
Lula’s Chocolates, Namu, Nielsen Bros.
Market, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Pieces of
Heaven Fine Chocolates, The Quail & Olive,
Terry’s at the Cypress Inn and Village
Corner.
Complementing them will be Alexander-
Smith by Paraiso, Bernardus Winery, Big
Sur Vineyards, Blair Estate, Carmel Road,
Cima Collina, Dawn’s Dream, Figge Cellars,

Live music will be provided by the always
popular Money Band, and a silent auction
will feature dozens of items, including
restaurant specials and boutique goods.
Tickets are $80 until Sept. 27, and $95 thereafter.
Continuing the celebration
in and around Carmel Friday
through Sunday, a wine dinner
with Caraccioli Vineyards at
Cantinetta Luca will take
place Friday night, and Bay
Bikes will lead a bicycle ride to visit local
tasting rooms. Participants can also pick up
passports to take part in the Carmel Wine
Walk by-the-Sea; sign up for three-hour
guided walking, cultural and tasting tours
through downtown led by Carmel Food
Tours; or ride the Monterey Movie Tour bus
to sites of films made in Monterey County.
