Brown County Shrine Club Gail Raehn Our gang meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Brown County Inn in Nashville at 6 p.m., allowing members time to grab a bite or a brew and gather informally before moving to our meeting room at 7 p.m. Our February meeting was loaded with discussion following the attendance of the Potentate’s Leadership Conference in January at the Murat by our president, Harry Bond, and vice president, Gail Raehn. This is believed to be the second oldest Murat county club in Indiana, which is shrinking in size way too fast. Upon receiving word of the Club’s poor health, Harry Bond made it a goal to not only keep the Club alive, but to also grow it; so he contacted his friend for help, Gail Raehn, who agreed to the goals. Both are fairly new to Shrine leadership but intend to give it their all. With all the knowledge gained at the Leadership Conference, the agenda was set. At our February meeting, Harry discussed fundraising through the Paper Crusade and Plaque sales in addition to assigning responsibilities for our other fundraiser: our June 7 Car/Truck Show to be held on the streets of Nashville. We are looking forward to hosting this event, and all Clubs and Units are invited. Don’t tell anyone but we happen to have an “in” with the judges and feel any Shrine Club or Unit that attends will probably be able to earn a trophy. Now, please pay attention: If you would like to join us and let us know you plan to be there by May 15, we will be able to cast some special trophies – please call Harry at (812) 988-6128 or Gail at (812) 988-6119 so we can plan for you. There will be food, music, trophies, cars, trucks and some really special vehicles. Also in the February meeting, we asked for a volunteer which was gladly jumped at. This allowed our appointment of a membership leader, a new position in our Club. The role of this position is to keep us all focused on new members, to contact other Clubs and Units to see what their recruitment program is like, and help us on a path of historical growth. We also spoke about upcoming special Murat events like the Shrine Circus and asked anyone who wanted to volunteer to help to contact the office. In addition, there was talk of the Fun Fest in Pigeon Forge and the Potentate’s “Meet Us in St. Louis” Program at the Imperial Council Session. There were also other important items discussed and the meeting only lasted until 3 a.m. (just kidding but if you would have seen the agenda …). If you are a brother living in our area or close by and would like to join our little Club in the hills, drop by any of our meetings or contact us through Harry at (812) 988-6128 or Gail at (812) 988-6119. Any and all Shriners are, of course, welcome to join us as a member or just visit with us at any of our meetings. Remember Clubs and Units, contact us by May 15 so we can make plans for your “entry” at our Car/Truck/Specialty Show on June 7. We believe our Illustrious Sir Potentate Ronald Elliott has sent a flyer for our show to everyone asking for your support of our venture. Mini-Cycles Russ Butters Caravan Club Jim Moore Officers of the Club are: Jim Moore, President; Deo Carter, First Vice President; Ron Frank, Second Vice President; Jay Warmouth, Treasurer; Joe Smith, Chaplain; and Ray Gotshall, Program Chairman. Please join us on any Thursday for food, fun and fellowship. We have very interesting speakers from all walks of life that we know you will enjoy. In addition, we have a nice buffet/luncheon. In simple words, we will do almost anything to entertain you. Everyone is welcome: ladies, family, friends, etc. Please come join us! It’s March already and soon it will be time to start parade season again. As of this writing, the only parades we have heard from are Plainfield, IN, changing the date of their parade to October 4, 2008. The other parade is the Imperial in St. Louis, stating that it will be a night parade, around 7 p.m. To find out more about our Enjoy your Shrine by joining a Unit or Club at Murat. We are still looking for more Shriners and their families to join our Club, having fun parading, helping the children in our Shrine Hospitals. We do approximately 25 or more parades each year in Indiana and other states. It’s now time to start repairing our mini-cycles for the 2008 parade season. May 1-4 is Kerbela Fun Fest in Pigeon Forge, TN. If you are planning on attending the Imperial in St. Louis (Monday, June 20 – July 3), the deadline for signing up is May 15, 2008. It is only 226 miles one way to St. Louis. April 5 is the Murat Ceremonial Ringmaster’s Banquet. Still on our sick list is Bertha Hood. Smyrna Shrine Guild Barb Wimmenauer Our Maharanee, Susie Brown, has planned a special Viva Las Vegas Night for April 4. The event sounds like there will be a little bit for everyone and a fun time for all. Please keep this in mind and spread the word. The weather should be much better and what a great time to shed our cabin fever! Please contact officers for more information. Note from Maharanee Susie Brown: Thanks to all your support and encouragement, my first Stated Meeting as Maharanee was a success. I would Madison County Shrine Club especially like to thank Susie Lawson for starting the meeting. Because of your kindness, I was able to attend my husband Ron Brown’s installation as first vice president of the Police Club. Tuesday, March 25 – Stated Meeting: Mark E. Nugent Our installation of officers party held on January 16 went very well. The new officers for the Madison County Shrine Club are: Curly McNally, President; Mark Nugent, First Vice President; Gary Clifton, Treasurer P.M.; and Mike Pettigrew, Secretary (held over) P.M.; and a new board of directors (some new, some held over). Have a good year to all the officers and directors. Since the installation, we have had a Noble step up to the second vice president position, Noble Jeff Mock. Welcome and thank you, Jeff! Noble Will Hart’s wife Vicki is the new ladies’ club president, and Pam Mock (Jeff’s wife) is the vice president. The new president of our Desert Patrol is Noble Jim Vest, P.P. Let’s get those three wheelers back out, shined up, fired up, and ready to go parading. May a green shamrock of luck come your way this month. Chicken first and third Fridays and fish second and fourth Fridays each month. January 25 was fish night – we set a record of 300 people served. The Club is open daily for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, serving daily specials. We at Madison County would like to invite all to our upcoming events, so mark your calendars. Past Presidents Breakfast is Sunday, March 30, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and for all the ladies, the Ladies Style Show will be held on April 5 (only $15). Champagne brunch and show. Imperial Maharanee Regina Hennings (from Florida) will be joining us for the annual inspection as well as dinner. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Please let Maharanee Susie Brown know if you would like to attend the dinner so she can make appropriate reservations. MAY CALENDAR Wednesday, May 7 – Guild Night: 5:30 p.m., Gatling Gun Club. We will be having a purse auction. This is always a fun event. Dress up those old purses and let’s see what we find! Tuesday, May 27 – Stated Meeting: 7:30 p.m., Murat. A quick rule of thumb: Guild Nights are held the first Wednesday of each month beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Gun Club, and Stated Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Murat.
