Daughters of the Nile Ruth Ann Kelly Maple Syrup—it accompanies pancakes, waffles, French toast and oatmeal. It is also used as an ingredient in baking, flavoring and as a sweetener. Syrup is made from red, black and sugar maple trees by storing starch in their trunks and roots during the winter, then converting it into sugar in the tree sap during springtime. Nights must be cold and days warm for this to happen. The average maple tree will produce 9.2 to 13 gallons of sap per year for usage. In Indiana, the Medora National Maple Syrup Festival is held in late March, followed by Wakarusa’s festival in April. Try to attend one of these festivals at your leisure. Queen Sandy Kessler’s year is coming to a close. She would like to express thanks to everyone who has helped or been a part of her Queen’s year. To all officers, committees and members of Koran Temple No. 30, you are very dear to her heart, especially during the passing of her beloved husband, Art. Thanks for your calls, support and kind words of encouragement. Love to everyone—you are the greatest! Due to the Super Bowl, we had to reschedule February’s Stated Meeting and memorial program to Saturday morning, February 18. Our organization expresses sincere condolences to the families and friends of our departed members. May God bless you. Following our luncheon, the White Rose Ceremonial was exemplified by our officers and enjoyed by all attendees. Congratulations on their beautiful ceremonial work. Queen Sandy’s last Stated Meeting will be Wednesday, March 7, at 7 p.m. in the Corinthian Room. Election of officers and her yearly report will be given. Our Queen will also be in charge of refreshments for the social hour. Come and enjoy yourself at her final meeting. Sewing will be Wednesday, March 21, and Queen Sandy is the hostess. Arrive at 10 a.m., help finish our projects, and enjoy a wonderful noon luncheon followed by a short business meeting. Past Queen Dorothy Abel thanks everyone for their time, donations and help in preparing items for the children. Kudos to PQ Dorothy for serving as sewing chairperson this year.
