magnificent S500 L (Long wheelbase)
for me to review, whilst sampling
the rolling hills of the beautiful
countryside outside Melbourne.
This awesome looking and
fearsomely handsome car has a
presence like no other on the road,
probably due to its heritage, but
mostly to its stance. The imposing
four door long wheelbase sedan has
beautifully contoured lines with
excellent all round vision.
On picking up from Mercedes-Benz
Airport Express Tullamarine, I took
the opportunity to photograph the
S500L while it was sitting on the
tarmac.
This has to be one of the largest
vehicles I have had the pleasure
of driving, but I have to hastily
add that when ensconced in the
luxurious cockpit there is no feeling
of uneasiness, you are immediately at
home with a sense of calm the interior
gives you.
One aspect I particularly enjoy
about driving late model Mercedes-
Benz is the familiarity that exists
within different models. I currently
drive a 2010 E-Class, but entering the
address of Victorian Club President
- Brian Billing into the sat nav
and being directed to his doorstep
one hour away was absolutely no
problem as many of the functions are
replicated from model to model.
This is not to say that I did not enjoy
the extra long video screen integrated
into the superb looking dash
surrounded by beautifully polished
wood, all simply stunning!
The beautifully constructed interior
is a combination of old world charm
and cutting edge technology, as shown
with the smooth analogue clock on
the dash fascia, highly polished wood
and the exquisite attention to detail
in the stitching. The multi function/
multi movement seats are as soft as
you would like for a long journey,
yet firm enough to support you in all
the right places when cornering or
enjoying winding country lanes.
Running on 18 inch run flat tyres,
the ride is smooth and reassuring.
The independent suspension irons
out any unwanted potholes with ease!
