The Pike Anglers of Cambourne
Firstly the Pike Anglers of Cambourne would like to CONGRATULATE Nigel on winning
the Cambourne Predator Cup. After a long enjoyable winter - and six Predator Cup
rounds -we are delighted to say that Nigel thoroughly deserved winning the Cup, espe-
cially after he had put a lot of time and effort in over the wintry months.
A total of 33 Pike were caught during the six rounds of the cup. These had been fished
for once a month over six months and, surprisingly, only one fish managed to weigh
over ten pounds. This was caught by Nigel himself on the sixteen foot drain and
Unfortunately a decision was made a couple of days prior to the sixth round: The Predator Cup was to be
postponed due to personal unforeseen circumstances which had occurred a couple of days earlier.
We felt that the 2006/2007 season was a good one for us as we had caught a total of 78 Pike, 14 of which
weighed over ten pounds, and four weighed over fifteen pounds. Unfortunately our hopes of a twenty pound
pike were dashed, but there’s always next season…The biggest Pike of the season was caught by yours truly
on the Old Bedford River. This weighed 16lb 8ozs, and Nigel followed suit with a sixteen pound Pike the
same day only 8 oz lighter.
We had very little idea of what to expect from these waters when the season first started, so now with the
knowledge that we have gained this should bode well for the next winter season.
The Predator Cup will be fished for again next season; once again we shall fish once a month over six
months with no fees to be paid and no prize money to be fished for, it’s just a fun Cup to fish for amongst
the group. Only one change will be made to next season’s cup which will be to include Zander. If any are
caught on Predator Cup days, the weight of the fish will count as double; for example if a Zander of 5lb is
caught it will then be counted as a 10lb fish, Simple!
Many thanks to those who participated in the Predator Cup; we certainly hope to see you all again next sea-
son.
