“Going Local <strong>Berlin</strong>” – our most popular app<br />

Although “Going Local <strong>Berlin</strong>” was launched just a few weeks a<strong>go</strong>, this new mobile<br />

travel companion from visit<strong>Berlin</strong> has already been downloaded 10,000 times. The<br />

app contains more than 600 personal tips on <strong>Berlin</strong>‘s 60 diverse neighborhoods. In<br />

addition, the app offers one <strong>to</strong>ur per district, available as a video which provides<br />

glimpses of the atmosphere in the respective part of the city. What really makes<br />

the app special is that it lets users submit their own tips and other information<br />

<strong>to</strong> visit<strong>Berlin</strong>. The free app is available for Android and iOS devices (smartphones<br />

& tablets) in the App S<strong>to</strong>re and at Google Play or from app.visit-berlin.de. It can<br />

also be used offline.<br />

A strong year for the <strong>Berlin</strong> economy<br />

<strong>Berlin</strong>‘s economy is booming – as the growth figures published<br />

by the Statistical Office for <strong>Berlin</strong>-Brandenburg show. According<br />

<strong>to</strong> the report, the capital city’s gross domestic product increased<br />

by 2.2 % in 2014. <strong>Berlin</strong> keeps catching up, clearly surpassing<br />

the national average for growth (1.6 %) and posting the<br />

second best performance of all the German states, just behind<br />

Baden-Württemberg. As the Sena<strong>to</strong>r for Economics, Cornelia<br />

Yzer, has said: “<strong>Berlin</strong>‘s economy is on the right track and companies<br />

across all sec<strong>to</strong>rs are optimally positioned. Whether its<br />

manufacturing, industry, construction or the service sec<strong>to</strong>r,<br />

Exports up three percent<br />

In 2014, exports from <strong>Berlin</strong> increased<br />

by almost 3 percent compared <strong>to</strong> the<br />

previous year. Overall, exports grew<br />

by 382 million euros <strong>to</strong> a <strong>to</strong>tal of 13.3<br />

billion euros. With an export volume<br />

of 1.5 billion euros the USA were<br />

again the most important export<br />

country for products made in <strong>Berlin</strong>.<br />

France, which was <strong>Berlin</strong>’s second-largest<br />

trading partner in 2013, is now<br />

in third place (at 802 million euros)<br />

after Poland, where <strong>go</strong>ods worth<br />

918 million euros were delivered.<br />

Along with pharmaceutical products<br />

(exports worth 1.3 billion euros),<br />

equipment for generating and distributing<br />

electricity (1.2 billion euros)<br />

and machines (1.0 billion euros) are<br />

among the traditionally strong <strong>Berlin</strong><br />

export products.<br />

expects current year growth <strong>to</strong> remain<br />

well above the national average,<br />

and has revised its forecast<br />

upwards, from 1.7 % <strong>to</strong><br />

2.2 %.<br />
