Festive fun
at the fair
This year’s Wealden Times Midwinter Fair took place once
again in the Walled Garden at Bedgebury Pinetum, near
Goudhurst. With pre-booked ticket sales up 47% on last year
the event attracted a huge number of shoppers and fans of the
Fairs. Despite torrential rain, which made parking a very muddy
issue and wellies a necessity, visitors, stallholders and WT staff
didn’t let this dampen their spirits, and pulled together with true
British grit, to make this another successful fair.
Inside the bustling marquees, stallholders did a roaring
trade, while shoppers mixed meeting friends with shopping
and browsing the food stands. Huge, colourful balloons, by
Bang-On balloons were used to decorate and colour-code each
marquee, helping visitors to navigate the vast array of stands.
Amongst the many eye-catching displays this year was a working
Aga on the Burlanes stand - which was used to heat mince pies -
hot-tubs at Homewood Leisure, and Katie Brinsley’s WT prizewinning
stand, made almost entirely from cardboard.
Those who needed to keep their strength up, when shopping
for Christmas presents or treating themselves, were spoilt for
choice, with Cocolicious on hand, serving delicious cakes and
mouth-watering toasties, as well as newcomers Mucky Duck
serving savoury muffins and warming soups. Other popular
stands included Coffee Real and Spade and Spoon.
