n. installs, downloads, or uses unauthorized or unlicensed software or third-party system without<br />

the express prior authorization by the District Technology Department;<br />

o. involves a deliberate attempt to disrupt the Network.<br />

7. Communications via the network should not be assumed to be private or privileged information. I will not<br />

send email messages unless directed to do so as part of a class assignment.<br />

8. Use of the network to develop programs that infiltrate a computer network system, and/or damage the<br />

software components of a computer or computing system is prohibited. I will not attempt to disable,<br />

infiltrate, destroy, or interfere with any part of the District’s computer systems.<br />

9. Use of the network to transmit, view or store sexually explicit or pornographic images, messages or cartoons<br />

is prohibited. Unwelcome harassment or bullying directed at an individual or group based on race, national<br />

origin, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, religion, disability or other characteristic is prohibited if the<br />

harassment or bullying is so severe, persistent, or pervasive that it has the effect of materially limiting a<br />

reasonable student’s participation in, or benefit from, the District’s educational program.<br />

10. I will not install or add any software to the school's computers unless specifically instructed to do so as part<br />

of a classroom assignment. This includes games and any other programs.<br />

11. I will protect others and myself by checking my disks that I use at home and school for viruses.<br />

<strong>Sussex</strong> Tech will:<br />

1. Educate students on the proper use and dangers of social networking websites and chat rooms.<br />

2. Create cyberbullying awareness through education of students and a system to investigate and respond to<br />

acts of cyberbullying.<br />

3. Reserve the right to monitor email/Internet use.<br />

4. Monitor file server space utilization by users.<br />

5. Remove a user from the network in the event of unauthorized activity.<br />

6. Ensure that computers, software, email, and fax machines are school property intended for school use only.<br />

7. Uphold abuse of computers, computer systems, and other district communication devices as serious<br />

misconduct.<br />

8. Require the loss of computer privileges and disciplinary action and/or legal prosecution if computer use<br />

misconduct occurs.<br />

9. Take steps to promote the safety and security of users of the <strong>Sussex</strong> <strong>Technical</strong> online computer network<br />

when using electronic mail, chat rooms, instant messaging, and other forms of direct electronic<br />

communications. Specifically, as required by the Children’s Internet Protection Act, prevention of<br />

inappropriate network usage includes: (a) unauthorized access, including so-called ‘hacking,’ and other<br />

unlawful activities; and (b) unauthorized disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal identification<br />

information regarding minors.<br />

10. Use technology protection measures (ie: Internet filters) to block or filter Internet, or other forms of<br />

electronic communication, ability to access to inappropriate information. Specifically, as required by the<br />

Children’s Internet Protection Act, blocking shall be applied to visual depictions of material deemed<br />

obscene or child pornography, or to any material deemed harmful to minors.<br />

11. Assure compliance with E-rate requirements of the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA)<br />

Abuse of computers, computer systems, and other District communication systems or devices are<br />

considered serious misconduct and will be dealt with by loss of computer privileges, and if appropriate,<br />

disciplinary action and/or legal prosecution. I understand that if I violate any of the above rules, I could<br />

lose my computer privileges including the use of portable systems that have been assigned to my classroom<br />

or me.<br />
