24 Hour Squashathon<br />

Hinckley and Burbage Lions<br />

Club and Hinckley Squash and<br />

Racketball Club raise over<br />

£5,000 for paralysed team mate<br />

Mark Langeveld was left partially<br />

paralysed byafreak accident and no<br />

longer able to play Squash. His team<br />

mates and Hinkley and Burbage<br />

Lions decided tohelp him and raise<br />

£5000 topay for asports wheelchair<br />

and gym equipment so Mark could<br />

continue toplay the sport he loves.<br />

At the event, they smashed their<br />

target of raising £5,000. Delighted<br />

organiser Cath Brown said, “The<br />

response from club members and the<br />

general public, as well asthe support<br />

from the Hinckley and Burbage Lions<br />

Club has been incredible. It shows<br />

how much goodwill there is in our<br />

community and that wecan all come<br />

together to achieve such afantastic<br />

response. Iwould just like tosay a<br />

great big thank you to everyone who<br />

helped and money is still coming in<br />

so hopefully, itwill be well inexcess<br />

of the figure we were hoping for.<br />

An emotional Mark, who went on<br />

court in his wheelchair to start the<br />

squashathon against Simon Eves,<br />

was overwhelmed by the response<br />

from his fellow club members.<br />

“This has always been avery friendly<br />

family club and despite our move to<br />

new premises, clearly that remains<br />

true. It means agreat deal to me to<br />

be able to continue being involved<br />

with the sport Ilove and the support<br />

from everyone who has taken part is<br />

just fantastic.”<br />

Hinckley and Burbage Lions Club<br />

President Sue Patrick said, “We were<br />

delighted to be involved with such a<br />

worthy enterprise and itisgreat that<br />

the club and its members are<br />

supporting Mark and his family in<br />

such apositive way.”<br />
