Administrative Appointments<br />
Heather Nichols Beck<br />
Heather Nichols Beck, who joined the<br />
department in January 2015 as Special<br />
Projects analyst, is responsible<br />
for strategic and operational projects,<br />
including those in key quality and<br />
safety areas. She works closely with<br />
senior leaders including the vice chair<br />
of Clinical Services, associate chair of<br />
Quality and Safety and the director of<br />
Hospital Operations.<br />
She served as accreditation<br />
manager (2009–2015) in the School<br />
of Medicine’s Office of Graduate Medical<br />
Education, working with 80 clinical<br />
departments, residency and fellowship<br />
programs on ACGME accreditation.<br />
From 2006–2009, she worked in<br />
the Office of the Vice Provost, Academic<br />
Affairs, as the Faculty Mentoring<br />
Program coordinator and Academic<br />
Affairs analyst, where she helped<br />
develop and launch Chancellor’s<br />
Council on Faculty Life initiatives. From<br />
2001–2006, she worked in the Dean’s<br />
Office, School of Pharmacy, supporting<br />
the Educational Policy Committee,<br />
coordinating events and retreats, and<br />
assisting with communications. She<br />
holds a BA from San Francisco State<br />
University.<br />
Laurel Skurko<br />
Laurel Skurko joined the department<br />
in February 2015 as marketing<br />
director.<br />
Skurko has helped institutions<br />
achieve their goals for 20 years through<br />
effective strategies paired with quantitative<br />
metrics to measure results. She<br />
uses tools like blogs and social media<br />
alongside traditional approaches to<br />
build community trust and amplify<br />
institutional voice.<br />
As principal of Linc Marketing,<br />
Skurko’s healthcare engagements<br />
included supporting the Lucile Packard<br />
Foundation with fundraising and<br />
social media; working with Children’s<br />
Medical Center of Dallas to reduce ER<br />
visits; and implementing a re-branding<br />
for The Blende Dental Group. Skurko<br />
also worked in the consumer products<br />
industry with Procter & Gamble<br />
in brand-management and with Estee<br />
Lauder in business development.<br />
Her writing has appeared in the<br />
San Francisco Chronicle and the peerreviewed<br />
American Journal of Chinese<br />
Medicine.<br />
Fluent in French and Japanese,<br />
Skurko holds a BA in Human Biology<br />
from Stanford University and an MBA<br />
from the Harvard Business School.<br />
Daniel Dominguez-Moncada<br />
In January 2015, Daniel Dominguez-<br />
Moncada became director of administration<br />
for Radiology and Biomedical<br />
Imaging and Otolaryngology–Head<br />
and Neck Surgery. He also provides<br />
consultation to Radiology at the UCSF<br />
Medical Center. He is responsible for<br />
career consultation, human resources<br />
and employee services, and learning<br />
and development initiatives.<br />
Dominguez-Moncada has more<br />
than 20 years of human resources,<br />
training and development, administration,<br />
operations, and business<br />
experience. He served in leadership<br />
as a manager for HR Service Center E<br />
(2012–2015), providing strategic skills<br />
as UCSF HR was centralized campus<br />
wide. He is “most proud” of serving<br />
as the HR manager in the School of<br />
Medicine, Dean’s Office (2010–2012)<br />
when Chancellor Hawgood was the<br />
Dean. In that role, he managed the<br />
Leadership Development Program,<br />
from which many UCSF administrative<br />
leaders have graduated.<br />
He received his BS in Business<br />
Management and Marketing from the<br />
University of Phoenix. He describes<br />
himself as a “strong advocate for taking<br />
charge of your own career.”<br />
