The exhaust is custom piped, with a
Magnaflow muffler mounted shotgunstyle
(sideways).
The 240z is one of those iconic cars
that keep getting better with time. It’s
a pure vintage sports car, whose spirit
will never die. Park it on practically
any street-corner… and it will lure
people out of their stores & shops.
And as newer sports cars come out
and continue to get better & better
(albeit more complicated), it just further
legitimizes why the originals are so
damn good.
This car belongs to Chris Melde from
Atlanta. He usually runs with the
KoruWorks Shop crew. 240z’s came
with the 2.4 L24 engine and a 4-speed.
This car is now running the larger, more
powerful 2.8L L28 engine out of a 280z
with Weber carb side drafts - good for
about 170hp. It’s also got the 280z
5-speed with a matching differential…
and a stronger/lighter 350z clutch by
Competition Clutch (direct fit).
Amazingly, aside from the carpet being
replaced, the interior is original. It’s got a
little wear & tear, but it suits the mood &
feel of a vintage sports car. The car was
just repainted last year in the original
Safari Gold. Chris tried to preserve the
original paint as long as possible, but
after a few paint/clearcoat separation
issues on the roof, it finally needed to
be addressed.
This 240z is lowered on a set of custom
S13 coilovers comprised of Megan
Racing S13 bodies welded onto the
Datsun’s hubs. Other suspension
components were revitalized with new
polyurethane.
The wheels are a killer classic set of
Work Equip 01s in 15x9. And to help slow
them down, a rear disc brake conversion
was put together utilizing 280zx rotors
and mid-80’s Maxima calipers.
