3-meter springboard diving record with 529.10 points – more than 30 points better
than the mark set in the preliminaries earlier in the day by Indiana freshman James
Connor. The diving national championship was Miami’s first since Brittany Viola took
home top honors in the platform in 2011 at the NCAA Women’s Championships in Austin,
Texas. Dorman defeated 2014 champion Michael Hixon of Indiana and 2013 champion
Kristian Ipsen of Stanford, who finished second and third, respectively. Connor was
fourth.
North Carolina’s Jamie Loeb defeated No. 2 seed Carol Zhao of Stanford to win the
2015 NCAA Women’s Tennis Singles National Championship on May 25 at Waco, Texas.
The seventh-seeded player in the field, Loeb won in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, pinning
the first loss on Zhao since March 22, and in the process, snapping a 15-match win
streak for the Cardinal All-American. Loeb (31-5) is the first singles national champion
in North Carolina women’s tennis history. Loeb joins Jenna Long and Sara Anundsen,
who won the 2007 doubles title, as the only NCAA champions in program history.
RYAN Shane / Virginia / Men’s Tennis / SINGLES
Virginia junior Ryan Shane concluded his season May 25 by capturing the 2015 NCAA
Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. It
was the third NCAA Singles Championship in Virginia history, as Shane joined twotime
champion Somdev Devvarman (2007 and 2008). This year’s title match was the
first NCAA singles final between two players from the ACC and the first between two
players from the same conference since 2002.
