Annex C: Cyclability Index Survey<br />

The cyclability survey can be carried out at anytime, but<br />

it is preferable to do it dur<strong>in</strong>g the even<strong>in</strong>g peak hours to<br />

understand parameters of conflict, availability of light<strong>in</strong>g,<br />

feel<strong>in</strong>g of security etc. Other parameters such as availability<br />

of cycle tracks or lanes, rid<strong>in</strong>g surface, street connectivity<br />

are time <strong>in</strong>dependent. But factors such as availability<br />

of park<strong>in</strong>g could be time dependent as park<strong>in</strong>g may be<br />

available dur<strong>in</strong>g work<strong>in</strong>g hours and may not be available<br />

at other times.<br />

Parameter 1: Conflict with other vehicles<br />

Description: This parameter assesses the level of conflict<br />

cyclists face on the streets. Conflict with other modes, especially<br />

motorized ones leads to serious <strong>in</strong>juries and are a<br />

major deterrent to cycle.<br />
