Welcome to Woodstock Park from The Club Secretary
Hello everyone, welcome to Woodstock Park.
This programme will cover the league match against Tooting & Mitcham United and the
Alan Turvey trophy sponsored by Robert Dyas Quarter final match against Corinthian
Casuals. Ironically Corinthian-Casuals were “beaten” in the last round by Tooting &
Mitcham United. However it later came to light that Tooting & Mitcham United played an
ineligible player against Corinthian Casuals therefore giving the Casuals a reprieve. This
is our first home match in this seasons competition. The winners will be away to Faversham
Town. Please note the fixtures in the middle pages do not include the new date for
East Grinstead away (Tuesday 16th February) or indeed the Corinthian-Casuals League
cup rearranged date! See the web site for the up to date picture.
As the Tooting & Mitcham game will be the first game we have played since 28th
December when we comprehensively defeated Ramsgate I hope everyone had a great
Christmas and on behalf of all of us at Sittingbourne Football Club I wish you a Happy
New Year. Welcome to all the players, Officials and supporters and the match officials for
both matches.
It’s been a frustrating time with 5 matches in a row being postponed because of the
weather. This has meant we still have outgoings without any income - and is the reason
that this is a two match programe and that the fixture list is not up to date.
This is the first meeting this season between ourselves and Tooting & Mitcham Utd whilst
Corinthian Casuals have already beaten us twice this season, both times by the odd goal.
Our job is made all the more difficult for the cup match by us having Miles Cornwell suspended.
Also Jordan Wells, Steven Ita and Kerry Kedze are cup tied. Jordan having
played for Hythe Town in an earlier round, Steven having played for Herne Bay and Kerry
having played for Chipstead. The good news is that George Crimmen and Conrad Lee
have both recovered from their injuries giving Nick a difficult selection dilemma with our
youngsters playing so well!
Talking of the youngsters we would like to congratulate Josh Wisson who has made the
England Schoolboy Under 18 squad. Josh came into our first team from the Under 21’s
and has been outstanding.
Last Tuesday our Cup match was postponed by the match referee after we were confident
it would go ahead. We had a referee on stand by but even at 4:00 the pitch was perfectly
playable. Unfortunately from around 5.00pm onwards the temperatures plummeted
and the match referee had no option other than to postpone the match. The same fate we
suffered the previous Saturday at East Grinstead when the referee postponed the match
at 2:00pm.
Our last home match resulted in a tremendous 4-0 win over high flying Ramsgate. A result
that gave us our first double of the season. The highlight of the game was Jordan
Wells coming on as a 70th minute substitute and scoring a hat trick!
The Saturday after we were on the wrong end of yet another one goal defeat. This time
against local rivals Faversham Town. We played well enough to get something out of this
game but it was not to be.
If anyone wants back issues of our home programmes please let me or Peter know. Back
issues are £1.00 each for personal collection, or £1.50 if posted!. Older programmes may
be available!
On Saturday we are away to Worthing on their artificial pitch so the weather should not be
a concern.
Finally congratulations to Jono Richardson who will be playing his 100th game for us if he
is selected! for both the Tooting game and Corinthian-Casuals games.
