Bryce Cartwright isn’t too far away from being the complete fantasy package and the only thing that
really holds him back is playing on the edge. Playing a full 80 minutes he would make close to 30
tackles a game, he can offload and he can break tackles. Cartwright’s only downside is his tendency
to miss tackles in bunches (missed five or more tackles in a game four times last season) and the
complete uncertainty around his minutes. In the last two years Cartwright’s minutes have varied
between a low of 21 and a high of 80. Here’s a chart of his minutes and fantasy scores.
Minutes
What we should be really interested in is those scores to the right of 60 minutes. Those scores
represent an average of 55 fantasy points a game in an average of 73.6 minutes a game, which is
very impressive. Even if you were to take all of the scores to the right of 45 minutes you get a
fantasy average of 48 points a game in an average of 61.5 minutes a game. It is all those 20 to 40
minute games that tank his fantasy scores. I’m bullish on Cartwright’s minutes, because along with
James Segeyaro he’s the best fit for an 80 minute role, but even if he is playing 60-65 minutes he
could push his scores up quite a bit. My main concern is how Tyrone Peachey will fit in, but I’m very
tempted to take this risk.
