Garden Peas<br />
As a rule, smooth seeded varieties are more<br />
starchy and used for soups while wrinkle seeded<br />
varieties are sweeter.<br />
Alaska (aka Earliest of All)<br />
55 days — Introduced in 1881 by pea breeder<br />
Thomas Laxton. The plants are 24 to 36 inches tall<br />
and grow well in cool soils. Typically five to eight<br />
smooth peas in each round pod. Used for canning<br />
or freezing but fine fresh or dried for soups.<br />

Alderman (aka Tall Telephone)<br />
75 days — An old English variety. It does require<br />
support as it will climb to about six feet. Pods are<br />

Badger<br />
68 days — Plants are erect, moderately branching<br />
and reach 18 to 24 inches in height. The pods are<br />

Early Frosty<br />
65 days — The vines are wilt resistant, uniform,<br />
reaching 28 to 30 inches and benefit from some<br />
support. It is a prolific freezing variety. Pods are<br />
about 4 inches long, blunt-ended, dark green in<br />
color, and containing 7 to 8 wrinkled peas each.<br />
Good fresh or frozen. Released in 1966.<br />

Early Perfection 326<br />
66 days — Vines reach 3 feet, are sturdy, drought<br />
tolerant and wilt resistant. Pods are straight, blunttipped,<br />

peas. Good fresh or canned as they hold their<br />
color and texture well. Dates back to the 1950s.<br />

Freezonian<br />

content. An AAS ® winner in 1948.<br />

70 days — Popular with commercial processors<br />
and home gardeners as it has high yields and<br />
