Summerhall is back as Edinburgh International Science Festival’s<br />

hub for 2016. During the day, it will be packed with activities<br />

for children and families and in the evening it will be filled with<br />

entertaining events for adults and teenagers.<br />

You’ll find sensational science shows offering a world of new<br />

experiences for all ages along with interactive workshops for<br />

young people and adults that are full of scientific and creative<br />

challenges, from building a ray gun to making a monster.<br />

Listings of events for children and families are included in the<br />

following pages and full details of events for adults can be found<br />

in the adult events section, p.35–61.<br />

Blackwell’s pop-up bookshop will be open every day in the<br />

courtyard chalet.<br />

DINO STARS<br />

An interactive, hands-on<br />

workshop with some of Dinostar’s<br />

fascinating collection of dinosaur<br />

exhibits. You’ll get an opportunity<br />

to hear about dinosaurs including<br />

Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus<br />

rex and then study replica and<br />

genuine dinosaur fossils at close<br />

quarters. The workshop features<br />

dinosaur teeth, claws, bones, and<br />

even dinosaur eggs! Steve Plater,<br />

owner of the Dinostar dinosaur<br />

museum based in Hull, will be your<br />

guide in this hands-on dinosaur<br />

experience. Ticket includes entry to<br />

Dino Day activities.<br />

PAPER CIRCUITS <br />

Learn the basics of electronics<br />

as you build circuits using only<br />

paper, scissors and copper tape.<br />

You’ll also have the opportunity<br />

to use your new skills to create<br />

a great-looking light-up card<br />

with LEDs.<br />
