EVER PLAYER DEVELOPMENT DAYS HOSTED AT THE<br />

UNIVERSITY’S OXSTALLS CAMPUS LAST WEEK.<br />

These events were the first of<br />

three opportunities this year that<br />

the <strong>All</strong> <strong>Golds</strong> will be running as<br />

part of the RFL’s “Embed the<br />

Pathway” programme.<br />

This Programme aims to provide<br />

a clear and consistent route for<br />

all young players from schools’<br />

Rugby League through to the<br />

full England team via the sport’s<br />

professional clubs.<br />

The two days, with Year 7 and<br />

8 players being hosted on 22nd<br />

March and Years 9-11 visiting on<br />

the 24th, had player education<br />

elements alongside athletic<br />

testing and on-field technical<br />

sessions.<br />

The athletic testing elements<br />

were run by Dr Jonathan Hughes,<br />

head of the University’s strength<br />

and conditioning MSc course,<br />

supported by undergraduate and<br />

post graduate students from the<br />

university.<br />

The data collected on each player<br />

will not only serve to provide<br />

information on development within<br />

the club’s pathway but will also<br />

form part of a wider study by one<br />

of the game’s great organisations,<br />

Brisbane Broncos.<br />

The NRL giants are in the process<br />

of working on their own talent<br />

identification programme and have<br />

linked with the university to develop<br />

this.<br />

Players underwent a number of<br />

tests and measurements and will<br />

be retested in July, as well as in<br />

subsequent years, to see their<br />

progression.<br />
