The Image button on your <strong>in</strong>ternet browser is ano<strong>the</strong>r great<br />
source of <strong>in</strong>formation. I’ve struggled with <strong>the</strong> wir<strong>in</strong>g diagram on<br />
my E-Type over <strong>the</strong> years, trac<strong>in</strong>g identical black l<strong>in</strong>es labeled W,<br />
G, RB, YN and <strong>the</strong> like. I found an image someone had done<br />
produc<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> entire chart <strong>in</strong> color so that I could see Yellow-<br />
Brown <strong>in</strong>stead of trac<strong>in</strong>g YN. Brilliant. Internet photos have saved<br />
me countless times when I failed to take a picture of someth<strong>in</strong>g<br />
before I took it apart or when <strong>the</strong> manufacturer failed to produce<br />
a much-needed diagram <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> service manual. I learned how to<br />
re-spoke and true a wire wheel on <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternet from study<strong>in</strong>g<br />
several sources. Ultimately, I wrote and posted my own guide<br />
which can now be found <strong>in</strong> a couple of places onl<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
Manuals are ano<strong>the</strong>r great resource I have found on <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternet.<br />
There are quite a few digitized service manuals out <strong>the</strong>re for <strong>the</strong><br />
cars, but tools are where I’ve had <strong>the</strong> biggest need. I <strong>in</strong>herited<br />
several outstand<strong>in</strong>g power tools from my grandfa<strong>the</strong>r. While I understood <strong>the</strong> basic work<strong>in</strong>gs of <strong>the</strong> tools, I still<br />
didn’t know <strong>the</strong> f<strong>in</strong>er po<strong>in</strong>ts of setup, safety and all of <strong>the</strong> higher features. Despite <strong>the</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>es be<strong>in</strong>g over thirty<br />
years old, I found scanned-<strong>in</strong> manuals for every router, drill press, band saw and planer that I had. Now I can source<br />
spare parts as well as correctly use <strong>the</strong> features and adjustments available to me.<br />
The <strong>in</strong>ternet can be daunt<strong>in</strong>gly shallow at times, but <strong>the</strong>re is truly a wealth of <strong>in</strong>formation and automotive<br />
enterta<strong>in</strong>ment available. You just have to ask <strong>the</strong> right questions and look <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> right places. While most people<br />
th<strong>in</strong>k of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternet as a resource for buy<strong>in</strong>g parts, <strong>the</strong>re is a lot of<br />
assistance available to <strong>the</strong> hobbyist beyond sales support. You might also<br />
contribute by jo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g and add<strong>in</strong>g to a<br />
marque-specific forum. Or you can<br />
turn to <strong>the</strong> dark side and go on<br />
Yahoo Answers and maybe help<br />
<strong>the</strong> less mechanically <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>ed sort<br />
out <strong>the</strong>ir motor<strong>in</strong>g mysteries like<br />
what <strong>the</strong> “710” cap does.<br />
